Book Soup on Sunset to Sell Vivid-Alt Movies

LOS ANGELES—Book Soup, the popular independent bookstore at 8818 Sunset Blvd. in West Hollywood, has announced that it will offer Vivid-Alt DVD movies for its customers starting today. This marks the first time in over three decades that the retailer will sell adult DVDs.

"We've been following the career of Eon McKai, the founder of the alt porn movement and feel that he's done some exceptional work at Vivid-Alt. We believe that our customers will want to discover his edgy approach to the genre," said Robert Tyson Cornell, director of marketing and publicity for the retailer.

Vivid-Alt is the award-winning imprint of Vivid Entertainment Group that has earned a reputation for using modern social themes in its artistic interpretation of sensuality. Vivid-Alt's latest release is Content, while other recent titles include Live in My Secrets, Man's Ruin, On My Dirty Knees, The Doll Underground and Bad Luck Betties.

The only other line of DVDs offered by Book Soup is The Criterion Collection, a mainstream distribution company selling "important classic and contemporary" films" to cinema aficionados.

Book Soup has a new web page booksoup.com/vivid.html devoted to Vivid-Alt titles. The movies will also be promoted on the store's home page along with titles from Criterion. The retailer is known for its floor to ceiling bookshelves, high-profile events and a celebrity clientele.

Upcoming author events include such speakers as Al Gore for his book  "Our Choice," Mike Medavoy and Nathan Gardels for "American Idol after Iraq: Competing for Hearts and Minds in the Global Media Age" and  Douglas Brinkley for "Wilderness Warrior: Theodore Roosevelt and the crusade for America, 1858-1919."

"We are thrilled about being in Book Soup," McKai said. "It's much more than a store, it's an artistic center for the community and it's both loved and respected."
