He made national headlines when his then-wife cut off his penis in 1993, following what she called years of abuse. Now John Wayne Bobbitt has been found guilty of harassment in a November incident involving Desiree Brook, whom Newsday identifies as Desiree A. Luz.
Bobbitt was sentenced to time served for the incident with Brook, a former girl friend. He'd been jailed for seventeen days before posting a $50,000 bond, Newsday says, and he's been ordered by the court not to contact or communicate with Brook.
Outside the courthouse, Bobbitt said he was innocent following his sentencing Wednesday. "I wasn't prepared for the defense, and I was innocent," he told reporters. His former wife, Lorena, was found not guilty by reason of insanity in the 1993 incident which made Bobbitt a national object of ridicule. His penis was reattached surgically and he worked in the adult film industry and at the Moonlight Bunny Ranch in Nevada. In this New York State town, he was said to have tended bar and driven a tow truck.
Earlier this week, Brook told geneross.com that she was afraid her involvement with Bobbitt, which she says includes cases with Bobbitt in two other states, would create a media circus, in good part because Bobbitt had circulated her adult film work, including to her family, and that the press inquired more about whom he was involved with regarding the November incident.
