Black widows are fearsome creatures — spindly, sinister and deadly. Does that make you horny, baby? Well Ric Williams is hoping it does, because he crafted his company, Black Widow Productions, around that connotation.
Started, appropriately enough, around Halloween 2004, Black Widow grew out of Private North America, where Williams was serving as the chief operating officer at the time.
“During a business trip to Private’s headquarters in Barcelona,” Williams explained to AVN.com. “I was asked if I had a company, or knew of one, that Private could use to distribute a new line called GGG [German Goo Girls]. They felt that GGG was too explicit to go under the Private name.
“At Private’s request, I set up Black Widow with Lisa [then Private’s sales manager]. The plan was to distribute GGG through the Private warehouse under the Black Widow banner, and Lisa promoted it at the Private booth at the Baltimore show in September 2004. Everything was in motion, but later in September, Private decided to shut down their North American operation.”
And so Williams broke off on his own with Black Widow, naming himself president and bringing GGG with him.
“Fresh contracts were drawn up and signed, and by November, we were already outgrowing the space we had rented and found a new facility in North Hollywood,” he said. “In December, Lisa joined Black Widow. We then realized that we needed additional content to grow the business and hooked up with Robert Goodman, who was involved with many producers in Europe.”
Not that GGG was doing badly, mind you; indeed, with such gloriously degenerate titles as Floods of Cum, Ass Full of Cum and Bombarded With Sperm, the line proved quite popular both critically and in terms of sales. Ultra hard-edge lovin raincoaters ate the stuff up.
“GGG already has eight AVN pre-nominations for 2006 and goes from strength to strength,” Williams touted. “Customers really like their unique style and the straightforward nastiness of the girls. Each film is a hardcore extravaganza of non-stop sex.”
Goodman, meanwhile, helped the company expand its library of content with fare from other European countries, like the Sweet Teens line from Amsterdam and the UK Student House specialty series Squirters & Gushers, Lesbian and D.P. Fantasies.
“All of our European [lines] have been very well received as they are different to most of the U.S. stuff, in that these girls really enjoy what they are doing … not just showing up for the check,” Williams noted. “The sex is also on the harder, more raunchy and side — kind of like what our movies were in the ’80s. Having said that, we now release a wide variety of content that appeals to everyone, from authentic lesbian sex to nonstop d.p.s to pissing, bukkake and of course straight sex, gay and amateur.
“All of the British lines feature well-known names like Alicia Rhodes, Layla Jade, [now Club Jenna contract girl] McKenzie Lee, Ashley and Angel Long, to name just a few,” he added. “We are excited about our new lines from One Eyed Jack and Your Choice. We will continue to add top quality content from Europe as we find it.”
The company has also teamed up on these shores with Team Tyler, the production outlet fronted by Tyler Faith and KSEX Radio’s Wankus.
“Team Tyler approached us with their concept and asked if we would be interested in distributing their new line,” Williams explained. “We are fortunate to have Lisa, one of the best and most experienced sales executives in this industry, and I think that is what convinced Tyler and Wankus to go with us after they met with other distribution companies.”
Looking to the future, Williams expects Black Widow to stay mainly in the distribution end, though he’s open to whatever business frontiers the market guides him towards.
“Distribution is our main focus,” he said, “providing whatever the consumer demands. We will continue to explore new technologies and new avenues to expand our offering to our customers.”
