BTS Video, an online adult distributor, has set up a unique program that pays actresses royalties on movies they’ve appeared in that are sold by BTS.
Owner David Bouns, who said he is working in cooperation with AIM Healthcare Foundation, told AVN.com that he hopes to chip away at the porn industry’s reputation for exploitation by offering actresses who enroll in the program a little something beyond their original talent fee.
Some veteran actresses have titles that have kept on selling over the years, he pointed out, “and they might as well get residuals.”
Here’s how it works: The actress (“past or present”) must fill out a form available at AIM headquarters, listing all the movies she’s appeared in, with the name of the producer.
It matters not if she doesn’t know or can’t remember the producer. “We’ll track them down,” Bouns said. “They can go as far back as Behind the Green Door. If we don’t have the movie, we can get it.”
Then she pays a one-time fee of $39.95 to set up an in-house account into which goes a percentage of the sale of her titles. Payments are made at the end of each month.
“She could make $10 or she could make $1000,” Bouns said. “It all depends on how many we sell.”
BTS, which stands for Beyond The Senses, has 1,000 movies on its site now, with 2,000 to come and a projected catalogue of 7,000 titles. A mail order system is also being set up.
Bouns said he is working on other ways for actresses to maximize their potential income, such as cards they can hand out at dance gigs that direct customers to the BTS site.
He hopes what he’s doing will change the public’s perception of the porn industry. “Everybody’s so greedy,” he said, “and it doesn’t have to be that way.”
