Director Axel Braun has entered into a non-exclusive agreement with Sin City to shoot movies for both their Sin City and Mayhem labels.
For Mayhem he’ll direct Analogy, an all-anal gonzo for release in August. But he is also developing a more stylized high-end project for Sin City’s new hybrid feature line for September release.
According to public relations director DCypher, Sin City has abandoned plot-heavy, dialogue-laden, Hollywood-style features such as their recent Undertow.
Instead their new features will be on the order of Jim Powers’ very successful Dementia—bigger budget movies that have some story line but are primarily driven by exciting visuals and hard sex.
“After Dementia it became clear to us that we had to make movies like that,” DCypher said. They have Powers’ Sodom awaiting release, and the next one in the high-end line will be the Braun project.
DCypher has coined term for the style: visceral immediacy. “And Axel has the eye and the talent to do it,” he said.
Braun directed the XRCO and NINFA award-winning film Compulsion for Elegant Angel, and another highly regarded story feature, Cadillac Highway, for Private.
For the past 18 months he has been shooting gonzo and wall to wall releases—70 in all—for New Sensations and its Digital Sin and Hot Boxxx affiliates, but that relationship has ended.
He is enthusiastic about his new colleagues at Sin City. “They’re really cool people,” Braun said. “It’s good to have open lines of communication with the people you work with.”
