Aussie Sex Party: WA Young Labor, Young Liberals Should Desert

AUSTRALIA—The Australian Sex Party wants young West Australians to sign up as members, get the party registered in WA and put a ‘bomb’ under boring politics. National Convener Fiona Patten (pictured) launches the membership campaign Thursday in Perth at Sexpo, along with celebrity adult star, Michelle ‘Bombshell’ McGee.

The Party will register with the WA Electoral Commission after 500 people have signed up as members.

"Many young people in WA think the government doesn’t care what happens to them and is not thinking about the future,” said Patten. "Young people are discussed in the third person by boring old farts in grey suits and are depicted as problems. We don’t think like that. We want a more progressive society; that means young people and fresh ideas.”

She added that the Sex Party would never set up a ‘Young Sex Party’ like the Young Liberal/Young Labor model. “We do not put young people into separate, powerless organizations,” Patten said. “A high percentage of our volunteers are under 25. They are people who’ve read our policies and understand we have serious political intent.

“Young Labor and Young Liberal are an insult to the intelligence of young politically-motivated people,” she added. “They were set up by the older generation to look good but have no policy input. Members should give up on them and join a genuine youth party.”

Patten wants to align WA laws with contemporary thinking. “Regulations surrounding same sex marriage and R-18 games are being set by people who have no stake,” she said. “That’s why we’re not making progress.”

According to WA Leader Bret Treasure, “Our state policy is a blank canvas at the moment. Come and tag it. We’re not just looking for highly political people; we want the guys who normally sit on the sidelines. We want to air sensible ideas in the media and influence what happens.”
