Aussie Schoolkids Get Porn URL On Book Covers

A large number of schoolchildren in this Australian territory got something they weren't looking for on the contact paper they bought to cover their schoolbooks: the address of an adult Website.

The contact papers featured images of skateboarders, but a Web address was also printed on the paper, and according to Northern Territory News, the address took those who entered it to a U.S.-based adult site, though News.com didn't name the site.

One father, Jo Wright, who told the paper his 11-year-old son bought one of the covers, said he checked the address on the family computer and found his Web filter caught the site.

"I think this is a malevolent attempt to market pornography to teenage and younger children," Wright said, "and I think that the newsagent industry has inadvertently been caught up in this despicable practice. I have no doubt that the local newsagent would be horrified to discover what he has been selling."

Northern Territory Consumer Affairs manager Scott Lanyon told Northern Territory News he was shocked that the porn URL turned up on the book cover papers. "I couldn't believe it when I became aware of it _ that this sort of site would be published on contact that is quite clearly aimed at children." He said his office is investigating to learn who was responsible for including the URL on the papers.
