Located in the capitol of Texas, start up adult studio Athena Productions is headquartered far from Porn Valley. And unlike cities such as Portland or San Francisco that are known for their sex scenes, Austin is a city well known for its music and indie film scene, but rarely heard of in terms of the adult industry.
“Austin is one of the more liberal cities in the southwest,” Adrian Arredondo, president of Athena Productions, notes, “so we feel that our presence here won’t be an issue from this end. As a result of our extensive analysis, we believe that the best selling product is European and that’s why we shoot all of are productions in Eastern Europe, so that takes away one of the main draws of Southern California, which is the talent pool.”
Athena plans to start with Femme Fatales,a wall-to-wall series shot with high-end production values. “We will feel that the premium quality market segment is underserved and we feel that we can gain a presence in that market with a style that I like to think of as an ultra-competitive product,” Arredondo told AVN.com, noting that while his average budget of $25,000 per video is certainly more-than-average in the United States, it’s worth three times as much in Eastern Europe.
Sexually,Femme Fatales has a little of everything except for material that could be considered obscene in some jurisdictions.
“We incorporate all of the sexual elements that are required to be competitive in today’s market place but we make it beautiful, “ Arredondo said.
Arredondo, who directs the videos himself, earned his chops in the mainstream world as a commercial videographer shooting industrial films and multimedia projects. He also has a background in adult, having worked for the Adult Video Megaplex retail chain.
Currently, Arredondo is seeking a distribution deal and has authorized Weiss & Associates to negotiate one on his behalf. The first volume is just being finished, with plans to release on bi-monthly.
