LOS ANGELES/NEW YORK—Wicked Pictures is pleased to announce celebrated filmmaker Brad Armstrong (Underworld) has wrapped his first major project of 2014, the compelling New York-set relationship drama Aftermath. An intimate character study with a twist starring Wicked Girl Jessica Drake, this relationship-driven production is poised for release August 27.
Aftermath focuses on 18 year-old Danny (Tyler Nixon), whose mother has given him the keys to his late father’s classic hot rod. Discovering a cache of photos and what appear to be love letters written to his dad from a mysterious woman named Nina (Jessica Drake), the young man tracks her down and a torrid May-December romance develops. But their explosive passion hides a dark truth that threatens to shatter Danny’s life forever...
After working so successfully in the epic genres of science fiction and fantasy, Armstrong is clearly pleased with his latest production, which brings the same focus and detail to a sublime relationship drama. "Aftermath was an amazing experience. Jessica and Tyler completely surpassed my expectations when it came to their acting performances. The sexual chemistry they were able to create was incredibly believable," the veteran director continued, adding wryly, "at times it felt so real that I almost got jealous."
For her part, Jessica sees Aftermath as an "epic" of a radically different stripe. "Shooting this for Brad was a very unique experience," she revealed. "Playing the role of Nina was challenging, but with Tyler Nixon as my co-star, I think we created an intense dynamic, and while I wouldn't necessarily call it a love story, it is a story of epic proportions. I had only worked with Tyler once before, and never in an acting role, but he impressed me so much. He was so good in every way, and I think that this will be remembered as one of his greatest screen roles."
In addition to the powerful performances, Armstrong and Drake are both quick to credit the decision to film on location as key to the film's overall impact. "Shooting in New York was great," the director raves. "We got so many mainstream locations. They give the movie a huge feel and add to the realism." Drake concurred, adding, "Filming part of the movie on location in New York was amazing. It really added to the ambiance, plus it got us in character even more."
Currently overseeing the film's post-production, Armstrong's enthusiasm for the project has only continued to grow. "I was happy with the way the Aftermath script came out from the beginning, but the cast delivered some of the best work I've seen in my 20 years of directing. I just saw the rough cut of a couple of the scenes this week and I was speechless. I think Aftermath is a true showcase for the amazing talents of Jessica, Tyler, Brandi Love and Ryan Driller." The cast also includes Asa Akira, Kaylani Lei and many more.
Drake shared the director's excitement, adding succinctly, "The sex is awesome, we have a great cast and, as is the tradition in most of Brad's big movies, there's also an orgy. I loved making it, and you'll love watching it!"
To date, Underworld has won over 15 major industry accolades. While following such a smash hit might be seem daunting to some, Armstrong has supreme confidence in his latest evolution as an artist, writer and filmmaker. "I've made a lot of award-winning movies over the years and this will rank among the very best. I can't wait for everyone to see it!”
