April O'Neil Profiled in LA Weekly's 2016 'People' Issue

LOS ANGELES—Alternative paper LA Weekly can usually be relied upon to include somebody from the porn world in its annual "People" issue, and this year the chosen adult community representative is performer/geek queen April O'Neil.

Previous industry figures who've made the "People" pages have included James Deen, Jessie Andrews, Dave Naz, Paul Thomas, Dr. Susan Block and Luke Ford. The paper's choice of O'Neil may or may not have something to do with the coming release of big-screen sequel Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows, which brings back Megan Fox as the character from whom the eight-year porn vet took her name. Either way, it stands to bring a little extra attention to the already-dropped WoodRocket.com parody Ten Inch Mutant Ninja Turtles, in which, but of course, O'Neil herself portrays ... erm, herself (or her alter ego, anyway).

In the profile, LA Weekly writer Art Tavana sketches O'Neil as a "hipster porn star" whose outside interests include such hipstery fondnesses as Doctor Who, emo raves and—most especially—pinball. In fact, Tavana reveals, she competes every week in the L.A. Pinball League.

The piece also notes that O'Neil won the 2012 AVN Award for Twitter Queen (a fan-voted category) ... and while we appreciate the shout-out, we do feel obligated to point out that she in fact won that award in 2013. (And furthermore, we take just the mildest exception to Tavana's assertion that a Pinball League trophy with O'Neil's name on it would be "a bigger prize than all the AVN Awards in the world"—but hey, we're biased.)
