Apple Gore

Remember the mad fun over Al Gore's "inventing the Internet?" (He helped get the federal funding that ultimately helped build the Net.) You'll love this one: The former Vice President was elected to the board of directors of Apple Computer Inc. March 19.

A Website devoted to kidding the computer giant couldn't resist a little mad fun of its own - saying that President Bush demanded a recount.

"In the wake of Apple’s announcement late yesterday that former Vice President Al Gore was elected to the company’s board of directors, President George Bush announced this morning that he would demand a recount.... The Bush administration indicated that if a recount was not successful, they would take the matter to the Supreme Court," said Crazy Apple Rumors.

Apple cofounder and CEO Steve Jobs wasn't kidding, though, when he praised the former Vice President's board election. "Al brings an incredible wealth of knowledge and wisdom to Apple from having helped run the largest organization in the world - the United States government," said Jobs in an official statement. "Al is also an avid Mac user and does his own video editing in Final Cut Pro."

For his part, Gore - who enjoyed a reputation for technological savvy during his political career and is also a senior advisor to popular search engine Google - had nothing but warm words for Jobs and Apple, particularly the Macintosh OS X operating system and Apple's open source commitment.

"And I am especially looking forward to working with and learning from the great board members who have guided this legendary company’s inspiring resurgence," Gore said in his own official statement.

"Al is going to be a terrific Director, and we’re excited and honored that he has chosen Apple as his first private-sector board to serve on," Jobs said.
