Anti-Porn Symposium to Take Place Tuesday

CAMARILLO, Calif. — The Ventura County Star reports that a symposium titled "Pornography: Assaulting Human Dignity and Human Sexuality" will take place Tuesday night at St. John's Seminary.

An alumnus of the seminary, The Most Rev. George H. Niederauer, archbishop of San Francisco, will address the issue of pornography and its effect on society. Niederauer's lecture will begin at 7 p.m. St. John's is located at 5012 Seminary Road in Camarillo. The symposium is open to the public and is free.

In a recent interview, Niederauer said, "Pornography is evil because it debases the priceless worth and dignity of each human being. On the internet each day, there are 68 million search engine requests for pornography websites, which account for 25 percent of all searches; 70 percent of men ages 18 to 24 visit pornographic websites each month and children are often first exposed to pornography on the internet at age 11."

The symposium will last about two hours and will include a question-and-answer session after Niederauer's presentation.
