LOS ANGELES – Angelica, a 20-year-old college student from Detroit, won the Miss Erotica LA 2009 title on Saturday evening in front of a raucous crowd at the LA Convention Center.
Angelica emerged victorious in a final-round pageant that included four amateur contestants who competed before a panel of adult industry judges on the Erotica LA stage.
“It’s still sinking in,” Angelica told AVN just moments after her name was announced. “I just realized that what I came out here to do is actually happening. I’m just excited that I won.”
Angelica earned an unprecedented prize package for a new performer that includes a one-year contract with LA Direct Models, a sex scene in a Wicked Pictures movie, a photo shoot with Suze Randall, a website from Premium Cash, publicity representation by Rising Star PR and a future cover of AVN magazine.
“I think she’s full of confidence,” said Derek Hay, owner of LA Direct Models, the talent agency that launched the contest in April. It originally started as the search for the next LA Direct Model, and turned into the Miss Erotica LA crown. Hay said he narrowed the field of 40-plus entrants to 12, and then half of those girls dropped out for various reasons. Six were invited to Saturday’s finals, and four girls actually made it to the Convention Center.
CJ, a leggy, 22-year-old brunette from Oceanside, Calif., appeared to have a legitimate shot at the title after rocking her live photo shoot with Holly Randall. Each of the final four girls did an onstage, mini-shoot with Holly, who is Suze’s daughter, before answering a series of personal questions from the sexy MC for the event, Jessica Drake. During the Q&A portion, CJ revealed that she was married and she'd only be interested in performing with girls, which clearly would have impacted the judges' decision. By contrast, Angelica said she she had never been with a girl and preferred men.
Holly Randall told AVN before the pageant that she’d be looking for how the girls moved and their level of flexibility during their pose-down with her.
“Flexibility is really important, like if they can arch their back,” noted Randall, whose glamorous photos frequently grace adult magazine covers.
The distinguished judging panel included Wicked Pictures director Brad Armstrong, Rising Star PR co-owner Devan Cypher, Suze Randall and Hay. Armstrong joked that he was a last-minute replacement for fellow Wicked director Michael Raven. “I just found out about this 10 minutes ago,” Armstrong said with a grin backstage. “We’re looking for a fresh, new girl that has a special something in them that Wicked is looking for. And hopefully they can talk a little.”
India, a 21-year-old from San Diego, definitely was a talker. She told the judges her favorite porn star was Jenna Haze before getting the crowd fired up with her dirty responses. “I want to get d.p.’ed and fucked by two boys,” she said when Drake asked her about why she’s getting into porno. A few minutes later India said that she liked art, and “I suck cock really well.”
The 23-year-old, blonde finalist Tiffany came all the way to Erotica LA from Long Island, N.Y., and told the judges she had sex three times a day while watching porn.
“I think all the girls did really well,” said Suze Randall, who kept the contest lively by encouraging the finalists to dance around and shake their assets.
When Drake, the Wicked Pictures contract star, asked the girls to reveal if they had any special talents, Angelica said she was “very, very flexible.” Then she stood up and did a full split. That may have been enough to seal it.
“I think ever since the first porn I saw 10 years ago it always intrigued me,” Angelica said before the pageant started. “I always had it in the back of my mind that it was something I really wanted to do.”
