KINGSTON, N.Y.—Andrea True, a New York-based '70s-era porn star who left the biz to try her hand at disco, garnering a big hit in the process, died Nov. 7 of unknown causes, reported the Daily Freeman. True was 68.
According to iafd.com, True, whose real name was Andrea Marie Truden, performed in over 50 adult movies during the 1970s, a time period many think of as the Golden Age of porn, starring with such iconic stars as Jamie Gillis, Marc Stevens, John C. Holmes, Linda Lovelace, Georgina Spelvin and Harry Reems, to name a few.
In the middle of the decade, however, True decided to try her hand at something else, and founded a disco act called the Andrea True Connection. In 1976, the group had a hit song called “More, More, More,” which reached #4 on the Billboard chart.
The single, reported Daily Freeman, “currently is being used in a TV commercial for the Post cereral Honey Bunches of Oats.”
According to ABC News, the Connection produced other popular singles, including “What’s Your Name What’s Your Number” and “N.Y. You Got Me Dancing,” but was unable to replicate the chart success of “More, More, More.” True returned to porn for a short period of time, but then faded from public view.
True also studied acting in New York as a young adult, and according to her obituary, appeared in many mainstream movies, including The Way We Were and Forty Carats.
Interviewed in 2002 for a VH1 documentary called Disco Divas: One Hit Wonders, she is quoted as saying, "I want to be remembered as someone who brought people joy with my music."
Born in Nashville, True was living in Woodstock, New York when she died. According to the obituary, she will be cremated, and inurnment will be in Cleveland, Ohio, where her family is located.
