CHATSWORTH, Calif. - Anabolic Digital announced today that its forthcoming gonzo release Penetration 13 will mark the company's first release on Blu-ray disc.
According to Anabolic sales rep Dan M., the company has pushed back the street date for Penetration 13 in order to simultaneously release the movie on standard DVD, HD DVD and Blu-ray disc later this summer. The movie was originally set to street July 9.
"We've had an overwhelming number of requests to put titles out on HD DVD and Blu-ray," Dan told AVN. "People who think that the consumer doesn't want to see high-definition porn are very misled. When the end user contacts the manufacturer, it shows there's a market. We want to step up and fill that demand."
Anabolic chose Penetration 13 as its first Blu-ray release based on the movie's potential appeal to a broad audience. Directed by Ricky D, the movie runs over 3 hours and stars Maya Gates, Adrianna Nicole, Aline, Chelsie Rae, Harmony and Maria Bellucci.
"Penetration 13 is a perfect title to launch on all formats, because it's got six of the hottest girls in the business," Dan said. "It's not overly niche-oriented, and it's really a high quality production. Ricky D did a great job directing it."
Anabolic would not reveal its source for Blu-ray replication and authoring, but Dan did say that the release will be AACS stamped and protected with an audio watermark.
"It was very, very hard to find someone that would not only replicate but author this project correctly," Dan said. "But where there's a will, there's a way."
