Alisha Klass on the new Showtime series, The Hoop Life

In response to reader Mike Howard's comment yesterday that he hadn't seen Alisha Klass on the new Showtime series, The Hoop Life, Klass says she'll be seen on this Sunday's [July 11] episode and the next two Sundays after that. The show airs 10pm.

Klass: "I'm also going to be on this new program they're starting on CBS after the Howard Stern show. It's going to be called Pink-TV. Hosting will be myself and Misty Rain. So far it will be in New York, Florida, Los Angeles. I think there's four markets. I'll be going to the studio to record a song. I don't have a name for it yet - I have the lyrics, I don't have the title. The producer is Gary Brown he's worked with Barry White and just finished a Roberta Flack album. I've been approached by some pretty talented people. I'm excited. We'll see what kind of voice I have. We're starting to put together everything this week."

Evil Angel goes to this Summer's Expo armed to the gills with new titles. Among it's big summer promotions, the Evil Empire is big on Apocalypse Productions' next feature Pussy Crimes, so says Jeff "Hatman" Marton of Evil Angel. According to Marton, Pussy Crimes looks like it's going to be pretty outrageous. "These guys are definitely going to make noise," he says.

Marton: "Wait till you see this. I play a Hasidic Jew. It's not funny, it's really stupid. I play it with a huge beard on my face. You can't eat pussy with a beard on your face. I look like Rasputin. Dream Girls 7, on our new softcore line, is also coming out."

Marton was asked about the eccentric spelling of his last name.

Marton: "My dad was in the service. His name was Arnold Morton Solomon. In the service some clerk mis-typed Morton and made it Marton. When he got out of the service it was much easier to get a job in the Long Beach school district if your last name wasn't Solomon. He dropped Solomon. That's how we ended up with Marton. I've seen it one other place. I watched an episode of L.A. Law and they had a judge Marton. I got on the phone and called my dad. I've never seen that name any other place.

"We're also pushing Nudes-A-Poppin' 6. Randy's [West] got I Love Lesbians 6; Up & Cummers 67 and 68. Rocco's got a new one called Animal Trainer. I gave him the title. He thought it was great. When a whip and a chair just won't do, call Rocco.

"Anal Ball made number one on the sales list last week, and I was afraid to call Tom [Zupko of Apocalypse] and tell him that. Between that and John telling them he liked the movie, and Jeremy Stone calling him the new king of porn, Zupko's head won't fit through doors any more. But he uses me in his movies. That's good."

According to Marton, Ruby ["I want a contract out of my ass"], Michelle Derriere from Buttman Confidential, Shane Tyler and Carla, one of the 'Dream Girls', will be signing for Evil Angel.

G. Ross: "If there's an ass that deserves a contract, it's hers." Ruby, who was in the Evil Angel office at the time, asked if that comment could be put in print. Consider it done.

Marton: "There's a sort of girl-girl scene at the end of Dream Girls 3 that John thinks should get nominated. These girls do each other outside in an alley on the hood of a car. They were drunk and just did it. It was real."

Ed Powers will be hosting personages from Rob Black's new XPW wrestling league this Saturday night on his radio program. Details are being firmed up this afternoon as to which of the Extreme girls [along with one of the wrestlers] will be on Powers' show. The league kicks off Saturday night July 31 at the Reseda Country Club. For ticket info call the XPW hotline at 818-779-6475.

Extreme Associates got a booth at the Summer Expo at the last minute. Rob Black: "We got it at the last minute. Jon [Blatt] wanted a good booth and the original area we were going to have was a shitty location. Jon said hold out. We held out till the last minute. He guaranteed us that people would drop out. So two days before the thing, a booth came up, a 10 by 20 - Zane's booth. My uncle dropped out so we took the booth. It's right in the entranceway right across from VCA. All the broads will be there. The big promotion is our company promotion. It's a our first time with our own booth and not sharing with another company. I got flyers done promoting our line. It's an 8-page flyer. We'll be pushing some of the newer releases but really just the company.

Black spent the July 4th weekend at Yosemite evidently preparing for a lifetime of chemical abstinence. "Me, Tommy and Lizzy were hiking up hills like retards. We didn't catch any wood diseases. No sumac. I came back in one-piece. Went on this thing that looks like a big giant banana. A boat pulls it, and you fuckin' bounce all over the place and stuff like that. That's all I did. Everybody drank and smoked dope and stuff like that. Me and Lizzy were sitting there like two bumps on a log. Another anniversary of sobriety. Besides my speed and valium binges on the weekend, this was the real test cause everyone was partyin', and I'm just lookin' at everybody. Jon said I can't believe you were around this shit for three days and not even a temptation. I'm not going to say there wasn't a temptation, I didn't act on it. It was peaceful, but I missed wrestling."

Zoe's been keeping herself busy working on her website zoe.sxx.net. "It's shaping up pretty good," she says. "It's different from a lot of the other porn websites. It's basically finished. It's up on its permanent server. The chat room is still in construction and it's going to be a chatroom plus it's going to have a webcam. But everything else is up and running. I think it's more personal. It has a lot of home pictures - no hardcore. It has nude and softcore. It's a free site and it has no banners or advertisements on it. It has a lot of fun-stuff. It has things like jigsaw puzzles, and it has an auction of personal one-of-a-kind items. Right now I'm auctioning off a pair of my shoes. I get an e-mail when somebody bids. Right now I'm up to $100. That's pretty cool.

"I'll be at the Expo tomorrow. I'm not signing for anybody. I'm going to see what's going on. I've never been to the summer show." Zoe will be dancing next week in San Francisco at the Century Theatre, July 14 to 17. "For the summer I only wanted one gig a month."

G.Ross: "Be sure to call more often. I need someone to replace Galaxina Galactica now that she took off in her spaceship, or whatever."

Zoe: "I read that, and thought, oh my goodness, does Gene have a problem typing? What she was saying did not make any sense... But I would like to meet her....was she somebody else and now this new created person?"

G. Ross: "This could be a more elaborate p.r. stunt than Kid Vegas."

Zoe: "I met Kid Vegas for the first time yesterday. He talks in the third person. I thought that was really strange. He asked me if I drank or did drugs. I said no."

G. Ross: "I guess that ended that conversation."

Zoe: "It did, actually. He didn't want to talk to me after that."

Zoe commented on her blustery, knock-down, drag-out scene with Van Damage in Hardcore Championship Fucking. "I've watched it like three times," she says. "I laugh hysterically, it's so cool. He [Damage] was such a good sport...he was bleeding."

Frank Towers attempts to go to the Summer Expo this week to mend fences. After a brief career on the gay side, Towers is attempting to re-establish himself has a hetero performer. It ain't easy.

Towers: "It's still rough trying to get work. I think it would be go for me to go to let everyone know I'm still around. We've all done things we're not proud of...right now I'm getting a subtle avoidance which I understand. This isn't everyday that this happens. I've had a lot of sleepless nights. Can you imagine being in the industry five years and all this has happened at once. I guess I need some encouragement. I did a Thomas Paine shot and that's about it...it was something like Space Sluts From Hell, something B-movie sounding.

"You know Marc Medoff? He interviewed me over the phone and said it was going to be for like a legitimate magazine, and he sold it to Hustler without me knowing it. I gave him a real interview, a good interview and they twisted the questions around. I can't do anything about it. Hopefully the interview in AVN will do well.

"I'm working as a personal trainer, but I'm struggling. I've dome my mistakes, but I want to start fresh. I need a chance to prove myself. I had a girlfriend who kind of screwed me up a bit. She said do gay videos because she didn't want me working with other women. But she's no longer with me, so I'm stuck with all this. A part of me says don't go to the show...I want to jump start the career, but I know it's going to take more than a few weeks.

Dr. Love's Traveling Salvation Show will have nothing on Dr. Susan Block who will be in Reno this weekend at the Lifestyles '99 Convention. Dr. Block will be conducting a "sexual revival" Saturday from 10:45 am to 12:15pm at the Reno Hilton Convention Center.

The Los Angeles Times comes out with a story today saying a state legislative committee has voted to order an audit of the 1998 World Pornography Conference that was co-sponsored by Cal State Northridge's Center for Sex Research and the Free Speech Coalition.

According to the Times article, Sen. Ray Haynes [R-Riverside], who describes himself as a "Christian conservative" accused Cal State of using state funds for the conference and requested the state auditor review the center's books. Haynes contends that the conference was "part of a concerted effort on the part of the pornography industry to legitimize itself." Haynes also went on to take issue with a particular seminar which he said encouraged pedophilia. The discussion was titled: "Child Pornography: Forbidden Thoughts and Images in an Erotic Landscape." The university denies that allegation stating that a discussion of a topic doesn't constitute an endorsement of an issue.

A Cal State spokesman said no university funds support the Center for Sex Research headed up by sociology professor James Elias, that the center is self-supporting and raises money from such conferences. Elias, who has produced documentaries and written hundreds of papers on the study of sexuality, won Cal State's Distinguished Teacher Award last year.

Gloria Leonard, president of the Free Speech Coalition has this to say: "According to the reporter who interviewed me [for the Times article], Haynes not only implied but came out and said that the conference was nothing more than a trade show, that we were dealing with child pornography and obscenity. Of course I refuted all that and explained that if Haynes knew anything at all about the Free Speech Coalition, he'd know about our standing reward about child pornographers. We study all the aspects of our life so assiduously, we attempt to further ourselves economically and enhance ourselves spiritually, naturally, it stands to reason that our sexuality deserves no less scrutiny or curiosity. He might have learned a few things had he showed up for this."

Leonard says, so far, she hasn't heard a word from the state. "I'd love the opportunity for them to do that," she says, "so they can see the ridiculous waste of taxpayers' time and money that something like this is going to eat up when there are higher priorities."

AVN's Mark Kernes, also a Free Speech board member had this to say: "The esteemed gentlemen from the California State Legislature obviously don't know their asses from a hole in the ground when it comes to the World Pornography Conference. Obviously, none of them attended it, and just as obviously, the reports they have gotten back about it are just as erroneous. This was a conference of sex researchers. Various academic people, or people aiming to get degrees in sex research and related sociological subjects were hearing from people involved in the porn industry about what that life was like. It's called research. The pornography industry doesn't have to legitimize itself as Sen. Haynes says. Well guess what, it already is. It's already an over $4 billion a year industry and that's just the videos. With the dance industry and toys it's probably over $11 billion. That pays a lot of taxes. It pays your salary, Sen. Hayes. Haynes probably got a hold of a conference schedule and doesn't like the concept that sex researchers might want to discuss a topic called 'Child Pornography: Forbidden Thoughts and Images in an Erotic Landscape.' Far from encouraging pedophilia, this is a study of why people are interested in that material. If you don't know why people are interested, then it's a little bit harder to sidetrack them from actually doing it. By trying to close down discussions like this, what the senator is actually saying is that he doesn't care whether there's pedophiles out there or not."

Extreme Associates knows how to spend a Fourth of July weekend. According to Jon Blatt, he, Tom Byron and Rob Black spent bonding time in the Yosemite National Forest. "You should have seen these guys out there, it was a blast," says Blatt. "I got pictures and everything - on the back of a banana boat, hitting the water, on jet skis - Rob on the back of a banana boat wearing all black. And he was drug-free the whole time. Rob is celebrating one year of sobriety."

Mike Ross writes: "Missouri Supports Our Efforts and Joins The Nation - Requests That We Create A Political Action Committee"

Ross: "About two weeks ago, I got a call from a gentleman in Kansas City MO. who supports the creation of a national cabaret association, and quite frankly, wanted to make a "pledge". After talking with him for about 10 minutes, it became clear that he was interested, but it wasn't until last week when his "actions spoke louder than his words", as his check arrived for the suggested minimum of $1,200 a year ($100 a month).

What made this check unique out of the dozens we have received to date? It was addressed to the Missouri Cabaret Association, and to be honest, brought a smile to my face. Why?

As of today, we have not scheduled a meeting in Missouri, nor had we slated the creation of a PAC there to occur until Late Nov. , or early December. As a result of this donation, we've created a "new policy" with respect to the creation of PAC's. In the beginning, we were only going to create them based on need and having an "organization in place" to support that PAC. In other words, if there was no "group" then there was no PAC.

And what is our policy change? Simple, now we are in the process of not only registering to lobby in every state, but more importantly, we will be creating PACs in states and communities around the country. As you read this, we have received the paperwork for both lobbyist and PAC registration in over 24 states and will be filing them on your behalf..

So, what does this mean for the industry? How about the fact that by Sept. 1, 1999, there will be 36 PACs Created in the country to represent your views, needs and desires.

At the current time we are creating PAC's in the following states: New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Florida, Maryland, Ohio, Illinois, Missouri, Washington, Oregon, Tennessee, New Mexico, Wisconsin, North Carolina, Arkansas, South Dakota, Mississippi, Massachusetts, Nebraska, Colorado, Connecticut, Idaho, Kentucky, Maine, Minnesota, Michigan, N. Carolina, Vermont, Virginia, and West Virginia.

Most legislatures across the nation are closed or are closing for the summer and will restart in Jan. . When they restart, we'll be ready to fight back professional and timely."

Mike Ross writes: "On behalf of The National Cabaret Association, it is my pleasure to announce the first two employee of the month "winners". We received several suggestions on whom to select, but since this is a new program, the two were selected because they represent previous and current contributions to the political success of the industry and the National Cabaret Association.

John Melander: A DJ at Sacramento's Club 400, John is the most dedicated active participant of the California Cabaret Association (and the NCA). In the past three years, not only has John attended every "meeting" that we have held, but over two dozen city/county hearings with respect to proposed adult ordinances.

Christi Marrero: An employee of Tampa's DeJa Vu, Christi has/is setting the standards for "employee participation in the political process", in this case, she is the "point women" assisting in the creation of the Florida Cabaret Association.

If you have an employee or entertainer that you would like to nominate because of their political or social contributions, please contact us at (916) 456-7311. Monthly winners will receive a certificate, a story about them in Showgirls Magazine and a $100 gift certificate.

State Court of Appeal Reverses Decision on Anaheim Cabaret

Mike Ross writes: "On June 29, 1999 the California Court of Appeal handed down a significant ruling for the adult industry and, in particular, for adult cabarets. Specifically, the Court of Appeal reversed the Orange County Superior Court and ruled that Bill Gammoh was entitled to proceed with his proposed adult cabaret in an industrial area of the City of Anaheim within 100 feet of the 91 Freeway (the Riverside Freeway).

The City played games with Mr. Gammoh and refused to issue him a permit initially because the proposed adult cabaret was technically within 400 feet of a sliver of property that could theoretically be used for a residence but which, as a practical matter, would never be used for such a residence. The City offered evidence at trail that somebody could build a house on the sliver near the freeway, but the Court of Appeal pooh-poohed this, saying it was ridiculous and that sensitive uses, not empty lots in industrial areas, are to be protected from adult uses.

Additionally, the Court ridiculed The Anaheim's argument that the image of the City had to be protected by banning adult uses within 100 feet of freeways. The Court stated that the City could not retroactively rezone property to be bar an adult use or to declare the area in question to be a redevelopment area.

Roger Diamond, attorney for Mr. Gammoh, was ecstatic with the decision. "This opinion, ordered published by the Court of Appeal and therefore citable as a precedent, will discourage other cities from using similar "shell games" to frustrate attempts to open and operate adult cabarets."

It is not know whether the City of Anaheim will attempt to persuade the California Supreme Court to overturn the Court of Appeal's decision. For now the decision stands. Diamond was especially happy because this particular Court of Appeal has not been known to favor the adult industry.

NCA Finds New Home

According to Mike Ross, because of political pressures and challenges nationally, the NCA is rapidly expanding its efforts to organize and educate cabaret owners while rallying consumer and PAC support for mutual issues that affect them.

"To do so," said Ross, "we've had to find new offices in which to locate. The offices, located 3 bocks from the capitol, provides several cost-cutting, time and client oriented benefits, with the largest being that we'll be located in the same building as six California Legislators and a dozen staff assistants.

"For the last couple of years, we've operated out of a private 'home' and have expanded beyond current resources. With a centrally located capitol office, we'll now be able to entertain visitors, as well as hire more help!"

Long Time Porn Fan writes: "Gene, Isn't it about time to induct Sasha Gabor into the AVN Hall of Fame at the next AVN awards!!?? Last year you inducted 9 people - many of whom were far less famous & had been in the buisness for a far shorter time than Sasha. Let's give the guy his due - he's been making films for years, no one has supported the adult industry through the years like he has, he's porn's biggest booster, a great ambassador for the industry, & he deserves a little recognition after everything he's done for adult films!!

Mike South mike-south.com writes: "The best thing about a Kid Vegas Snuff flick would be if Kid...Could we possibly get THAT Lucky?

Dave Cummings writes that 670 million rentals of adult videos last year in America! That's a lot of emotionally sound people who realize that sex between consenting adults is indeed natural, normal, and healthy!

If this is true, and I don't doubt that it is, why are producers of this material practically giving it away? The demand is there, it is high time we quit whoring out product and start making money. As long as producers are willing to sell product at razor thin margins we are not going to achieve the prosperity that we deserve. It is time we pulled our heads out of our asses and stopped shooting ourselves in the foot.

And, finally, but most importantly, anyone who thinks they are being ripped off by www.personalporn.com should contact me at [email protected]. These people are reselling content that is copyrighted without permission. I would also welcome legal advice on federal criminal charges or a class action civil suit.
