Adult Video Advertising Placement Arrives

Coming soon to a DVD player near you: nonadult commercial spots on new adult releases from Jet Multi-Media, thanks to Voxman Entertainment.

The planned spots are said to include ads for rock musicians, herbal pharmaceuticals, clothing companies, and other clients not generally tied to adult entertainment, according to Voxman president Christopher J. Lucy.

Jet already ships more than 50,000 DVD titles a month, and that number is growing, Lucy said. He added that the releases would include at least two 30-second commercials produced by his affiliate, TC-2 Productions, later in June.

Lucy was unavailable for comment before this story went to press, but he said in a June 6 announcement that adult video advertising placement, or AVAP, stands to become a very lucrative adult industry niche.

“Our customers’ response rate for advertising with Jet is tremendous," Lucy said in announcing the Jet deal. "They are currently shipping over 50,000 DVDs a month and steadily growing. This industry has a mecca of untapped advertising space, on their DVDs that is, and companies are lining up to get a piece of it."

The key, Lucy said, is that plenty of male-oriented adult production companies have never been exposed to the availability or advantages of ad space on adult DVDs.

"Sure, you have adult call number ads that are more annoying than anything; however, that's not what we sell," he said. "Our clients are generally not related to the adult industry at all and we are focusing more on “outside” businesses, such as rock bands, herbal pharmaceuticals, clothing companies, and many others.”

Lucy also said Voxman plans to expand its network and make contacts with other companies in the adult industry who might want to give AVAP a try.

“It’s a win-win situation for both us and the adult producer," he said. "AVAP essentially helps offset the overall cost of production, while improving audience participation and brand awareness for their product.”
