About a year after Nochex High Street premiered as a meet-and-buy online marketplace, the company unveiled an adult Web portal, Nochex Adult Portal, and its masterminds say they're more than please with how its early going has gone.
"The early reception has been fantastic," said Nochex sales director Paul Smith, in an e-mail interview with AVN.com. "We already have 120 + sellers listed on the Adult Portal and are working closely with many of them.
"They like Nochex as it is a very cost effective way of accepting payments online from the 50 million plus debit cards in issue in the UK and since all Nochex payments are guaranteed they don't have to worry about chargebacks," Smith continued. "All they need to do is focus on offering their buyers a great service."
At this writing, Nochex Adult Portal ties to 39 adult Internet content providers, thirteen Websites offering adult videos and DVDs for sale or exchange, fourteen Websites specializing in adult toys and novelties, 24 escort services, five Webmaster resource sites, and more, all or most based in the U.K. and Europe. The adult portal lists other categories as well, such as fetish, personal items, transsexual/transgender, and spanking, and "other sections may be added in due course."
Smith said Nochex High Street began "to build a marketplace where Nochex buyers could meet Nochex sellers and vice versa. The Adult Portal is simply an extension of this marketplace." Immediate plans are to bring in other portals dealing with sports and arts and crafts in the coming months, he said.
The long-term aim of each Nochex portal, adult oriented and otherwise, Smith said, is helping sellers build the volume of payments they process through Nochex. "By listing their products or services on the Adult Portal," he said, "(adult sellers) are exposed to a rapidly growing UK-based community of over 400,000 Nochex members."
Not that Nochex will deal with just anyone, he added. "In order to give consumers confidence in making purchases from Websites, Nochex is carefully selecting the sellers who are listed on the portal," Smith said. "Nochex has also been developing a ratings system which will help the community self regulate."
Sellers offering poor service can be subject to negative buyer feedback available for review by other Nochex members, very similar to Internet auction king eBay's user-buyer-seller feedback system. And Smith said such sellers "will be quickly rooted out, good sellers will achieve strong reputations, and hopefully more transactions."
Asked what Nochex would prefer to avoid, in terms of content, Smith said Nochex strives to be a "lifestyle-friendly company…keen to ensure this style is maintained." But he added that Nochex reviews sites case-by-case, "to ensure that the content and listings are both legal and suitable for inclusion."
