WARRENDALE, Pa. - Digital Playground swept Adult DVD Empire's 2008 Empire Awards, thanks to the overwhelming success of Pirates II: Stagnetti's Revenge.
To no surprise, the blockbuster sequel won in eight categories including Best Overall DVD, Best Blu-ray, the Editor's Choice Award, and the coveted Viewer's Choice Award.
"For a movie to win in all those major categories shows what an outstanding release Pirates II was," said Shannon Nutt, editorial director for Adult DVD Empire. "It was not only popular with a majority of Empire Award voters, but with the overall fan base as well."
The Best DVD Video Quality award for Cheerleaders and the Best Selling DVD award for Babysitters gave Digital Playground a total of 10 awards, more than any other company. But Digital Playground did not capture the Best Overall Studio award.
The Best Overall Studio honor went to Elegant Angel, whose release Alexis Texas is Buttwoman was named Best All-Sex DVD of 2008.
Wicked Pictures received the Best Feature DVD award for Fallen, along with the award for Best Compilation DVD Studio. Jules Jordan Video won the Best Compilation DVD category for Blonde Ambition.
The Best Gonzo DVD award went to Third Degree Films for Big Boob Orgy. Private's Billionaire was voted Best Foreign DVD , Abby Winters took the Best Amateur DVD category for The Girl Sessions, and Vouyer Media won the Best Fetish DVD award for Fetish Fucks.
Zero Tolerance won Best Interactive DVD for Interactive Sex with Bree Olson.
In the Best Classic category, VCX scored a well-deserved win for its terrific special edition of the John Holmes classic Johnny Wadd.
The Empire Awards are decided by the Adult DVD Empire Editorial staff, other notable online adult reviewers, and select industry voters. The Viewer's Choice Award is determined by online fan votes.
