DVD retail site, Adult DVD Empire, has announced the nominees for the seventh annual Adult DVD Empire Awards. The event looks to honor the best and brightest on Adult DVD from 2006.
The first Adult DVD Empire Awards were handed out in 2001, and organizers said that the awards have stayed focused on adult talent and the DVD format, with technical aspects such as DVD bonus features, video and audio quality all taken into consideration.
"Once again, the studios really outdid themselves on some of their titles, said Adult DVD Empire's Editorial Director, Shannon Nutt. "The adult feature seemed to make a huge comeback in 2006, while we also saw the gonzo studios step things up and provide releases shot with HD cameras, enhanced for widescreen TVs and with the kind of extras previously seen on only adult feature releases."
The 2006 Adult DVD Empire Awards include categories ranging from Best Overall DVD to Best DVD Menu Designs and Best Overall Studio. The most nominated DVDs this year are Digital Playground's Island Fever 4 and Wicked Picture's The Visitors, each with 8 nods. Wicked's Manhunters and Ninn Worx's Sacred Sin were close behind, with 7 nominations each. Wicked Pictures has the most nominees as a studio with 23 (including 2 nods for Marc Dorcel foreign titles). Vivid has 14 nominations and Digital Playground come in with 12, while Zero Tolerance was honored with 8 nominations.
Other DVDs receiving multiple nominations were Vivid's Emperor and Jules Jordan Video's Jenna Haze Dark Side – both of which received 4 nominations.
The categories also include the Viewers Choice Award, which can be voted on by anyone visiting the Empire Awards website. Voting ends at midnight on Feb. 23.
Winners of all the Empire Awards will be announced on March 2.
"Unlike previous years, there's no clear-cut winner this time around," added Nutt. "It's going to be a real horse race in some of these categories."
