Adam & Eve Profiled

Adam & Eve is profiled in an in-depth story in Monday's edition of the Herald-Sun newspaper in North Carolina, where the leading manufacturer is based.

The article discusses the background of founder Phil Harvey and includes remarks from employees such as Katy Zvolerin, Libby Lynn and Janie Miles.

In the story, Zvolerin, the director of public relations for PHE, said the company budgets $60,000 a year for donations, giving money to a variety of charities, including the March of Dimes, the Ronald McDonald House, the American Cancer Society, Planned Parenthood, Muscular Dystrophy, Special Olympics, St. Jude Hospital and numerous others.

Harvey was also the subject of an Associated Press story filed in Hanoi, Vietnam. The article said that in Vietnam and 10 other developing countries, Harvey donates a chunk of his millions for contraceptives that sell for pennies to the poor.

"I don't find this odd at all, but a lot of people do," he told AP. "I mean, what else would I do with the money? This is my life's work. I can't think of any more enjoyable way to make use of those profits."

Harvey is president of Washington-based DKT International, a non-profit organization which he says gets about $2 million of his annual earnings from Adam & Eve's $70 million in sales, according to the report.
