AVNONLINE ON THE RISE 200603 - Mobile Streaming Solutions

In existence for nearly four years, “Mobile Streaming Solutions develops mobile video streaming technologies,” says Jay Borges, chief operating officer. “It took us about three years to develop the core technology, but we debuted it in the mainstream in Europe within the past year with great success.”

It was only during the latter half of 2005 that the Fremont, Calif.-based company began to focus on the adult space, but when it decided that was the place to be, it dove in with vigor. “Our European partners suggested our app would be a great one for the adult space, and that’s turned out to be true,” Borges says.

“It’s a perfect fit for several reasons,” he continues. “First, we can take any webcam on-the-fly and transcode it to stream out to a mobile phone. The stream adapts the frame rate, the screen resolution, the format, and the network speed on-the-fly, and it works with essentially all networks, whether they’re GSM or CDMA.”

Mobile Streaming Solutions’ software resides on a content owner’s Web server without requiring changes to the existing architecture and is easy to implement for both the webmaster and the end user, Borges says. The company also has developed a small-footprint, white-label player application to overcome the existing limitations of players already on mobile phones. “The player interfaces with existing user databases and is customizable in many different ways for marketing purposes,” Borges says. “One of its most impressive features is two-way text chat with a real-time, live video stream.

“Essentially, whatever you can do with live webcam chat on your computer, you can do now on your phone with our technology,” he says.

The entire system is 3GPP compliant and available on a revenue-sharing – instead of software-licensing – basis.
