The fact that Ashley Long, who plays Maya, the female lead in Compulsion, shows up to the set on her day off says something about the film. And, yes, finally puts an end to the mystery surrounding what is likely to be considered the role of the year.

“This isn’t your ordinary porn. This is truly something different and I want to see how things are going,” Long explained to AVN.com. “You put this much into to something and it makes it feel like its yours.”
That feeling seems to have infected the entire cast and crew. Though they have been pulling 22-hour days for the last six days, the mood on the set is light-hearted and even inspired. Everyone on the set has an impression of Axel Braun – the Italian born director slash General Manager of Elegant Angel. Braun speaks better English than most natives, but with a somewhat of a Speedy Gonzalez meets Peter Lorre (The Maltese Falcon, Casablanca) accent. English is his fourth language.
“Listen - You vwant to git de paaassion”, he directs, causing the crew and cast not in the current scene to crack up laughing and automatically begin to echo the statement.
Braun even has a favorite impressionist among the cast. He often calls for male lead Kurt Lockwood to give visitors to the set his impression of the director. The visitors are notably never press.
When AVN.com pressed Elegant Angel public relations spokesman and director Thomas Zupko, about the lack of official publicity on the project he obliquely offered, “I’m not saying much about this movie because Axel Braun has poured his heart and soul into it and to be fair, it’s the most amazing piece of filmmaking I’ve seen in years. We’re all content to let the movie do the talking and just want to get to work.”
No one ever shows up late. There have been no flakes.
The sex scenes are incredibly demanding. Lockwood and Long first pair up for a scene in the pool that takes four hours. It was a nighttime shoot and for the two in the water it was very cold. Making it more difficult is that everyone understands that second-rate performances aren’t going to cut the mustard for this film – and Braun is a very exacting director. He knows what he wants and the scenes don’t stop until he gets it – and enough for bonus footage on the DVD. Long left the scene with two bruises on her ass. Of course that was a tame scene compared to Long’s next scene – where she is brutally taken by three guys, while Lockwood is forced to watch.
See, one of the mob henchmen took photographs of the pool encounter and gave them to Patrick Collins, who turns on an amazingly inspired and nuanced performance as the mob boss. When Collins learns that his son is fucking his wife, he actually handles it pretty well, but insists that Maya (Long’s character) let him in on what she’s really like.
What she’s really like is a woman who likes brutal, hardcore, dominating and degrading sex. So Mr. Bigg, who works as Collins’ enforcer, chains Lockwood to a cross, holds a gun to his head, and forces him to watch as three thugs fuck Long into submission.
Some on the set were concerned that the scene may be too intense and graphic. However, Braun, who has a doctorate in psychology, feels that he’s established that Long is the type of woman who is into to that kind of sex play.
Mr. Bigg was another happy accident for the film. His role was written by Braun with him in mind, though he had never done feature work before. Unfortunately, no one could get a hold of him, so the role was about to go to someone else – until Bigg called Elegant Angel three days before production started.
Of course, Bigg has a sex scene as well, though it hasn’t been shot yet. “But you know how it is… it’s not a movie until Mr. Bigg has done his thing”, quipped the actor, whose name comes from his 13-inch endowment.
Another sex scene shot under harsh conditions was the sex party thrown by mob gopher Xerox, where he teams up with one girl (Rachel Rotten) while a friend takes on two girls at once in the same room. While bongs and black lights set the scene as the room of a slacker – it’s all work in the room as temperatures reach well over 100 degrees.
The entire cast is drenched in sweat by the time for the money shot, with Braun demanding to the two girls kneeling in front of Jay Ashley. And when you swallow the cum, act like you love it. You can’t git enuff of that cum. Smiiile.”
Impersonations of Braun, much to his amusement, once again take off across the set as the girls reach for towels to clean up. And they indeed have a big smile on their faces.
