AVN Sneak Peek: Mary Carey Airs Television Ad

Kick Ass Pictures contract performer and California gubernatorial candidate Mary Carey announced today that she has purchased 30 seconds of commercial time on NBC's The Tonight Show the night before the election. The ad will air in the Los Angeles market on KNBC, reaching a potential 5.4 million households.

According to FCC rules, as long as obscenity and profanity are avoided by the candidate, TV stations are not allowed to censor a campaign ad for content. They must also air the ad in the time slot of the candidate's choosing.

"I hope everyone in Los Angeles tunes in Monday night to hear what I have to say," said Mary Carey. "Win or lose, this is why I joined the election – to get my issues out to the public."

The commercial begins with Mary Carey dressed in an orange prisoner's outfit with a G-man standing guard as a voiceover reads "The Federal Government wants to outlaw adult film stars like Mary Carey. As a California voter you can stand by and watch this happen," the voice reads.

"Or you can elect me governor of California, because I'll stand up for the adult industry," Carey says, tearing off the prison garb to reveal her familiar red, white, and blue bikini.

Carey then goes on to list some of her campaign platforms before ending the 30-second spot with, "In other words, California, I'll be a kick ass governor. So vote for me, Mary Carey, on October 7th."

When Carey says the words 'Kick Ass,' the Kick Ass Pictures logo pops up to cover her ass - the most prominent time Kick Ass Pictures has been plugged outside of the adult industry during Carey's high-profile campaign.

The Tonight Show was selected for Carey's one television ad for a variety of reasons including that it is the top-rated show in its time slot and that Jay Leno has given the campaign a lot of exposure. "Granted, much of that exposure came from monologue jokes about Mary – but it still helped get her name out to California voters, and we appreciate that," explained Mark Kulkis, president of Kick Ass Pictures and Carey's campaign manager.

Kulkis told AVN.com that The Tonight Show was aware of the ad. "As a matter of fact, they called me about using a clip from Mary Carey Rules 2 just five minutes ago and I told them about the ad," he said.

And Carey has a lot more than 30-seconds coming her way.

Last night she became a finalist in a surprise coup, placing third in a field of six on Who Wants to Be Governor? The Debating Game that was taped last earlier this month, but aired last night. That show will run ten more times before the October 7election.

Now it's up to the voters in an online election held at the Gameshow Network's Website.

Viewers won't know who actually won the "debate" until the 8 p.m. victory party next Tuesday, the same time polls close in the real election.

But the media blitz doesn't end there.

Then last night she also appeared live on MSNBC, followed this morning by an appearance on CNN. She also made this morning's Page Six of the New York Post.

Earlier this week she was on both the front page of Yahoo.com and AOL.com. For the moment she's the most famous porn star in the country.

And Friday, she'll be appearing in a special live adult video chat, at Videosecret's Flirt4Free.

"Consider it a preview of what I'll do if I do get into the governor's mansion," Carey giggled, referring to her platform of placing Webcams in the governor's mansion to raise money for the state.

Carey had actually scheduled the Webcam event before her candidacy in the recall election began.

Who Wants to Be Governor? The Debating Game will rerun on the Gameshow Network 10 more times before Election Day, October 7, including episodes at 4 p.m. and 10 p.m. tonight and 11 p.m. tomorrow.
