AVN MOVING ADULT EXPO TO JAN 2001

AVN is moving its Adult Entertainment Expo to January 2001 to coincide with that year's Consumer Electronics Show, housing the expo at the Venetian Hotel here, says AVN publisher Paul Fishbein.

Fishbein says several reasons prompted the move. "Video and DVD are the core businesses for our customers," he says, "so it makes perfect sense that our trade show aligns itself with the home video industry at large. This move is exactly what the adult industry and exhibitors have asked for."

He says the adult segment of CES was held away from the rest of the show for years, which made it inconvenient for those attending CES to get to the adult segment. "Not only will CES attendees still be able to access our show, but our co-location with Home Video Entertainment Week and the VSDA Convention allows exhibitors to do business with thousands of video retailers and retail video buyers, as well as fans of adult entertainment. We expect traffic on our show floor to increase substantially."

Without naming them explicitly, Fishbein says the top four adult studios have committed to the AVN Adult Entertainment Expo through 2002.

AVN and the Venetian Hotel seem to have struck a strong relationship together. This year's Adult Video Awards and Adult Internet Awards are being held there; the former, also known as A2K, is sold out completely. It happens Saturday night at 7 p.m., followed by an AVN-sponsored awards party.

Advanstar Communications director Tracy Harris says they're thrilled by the adult industry move. "(I)t means our customers will have access to all products within the home video industry housed under one roof.

"We had long heard the adult segment…wanted a show of their own because they have been segregated by CES in the past," he continues. "Being co-located with the mainstream home video industry enables them not only to reach more people, but also have a much more prominent presence among all audiences - consumers, CES attendees, and video retailers alike."
