AVN Cancun conference

Sneece 1234 writes about a recent Cancun posting: "So Ed Powers likes Amazon women?! I should have read him for a shmoo right from the start but it never occurred to me. Nothing wrong with that. All I can say is when you get back I am going to expose you to more Amazon women than you ever dreamed existed, and if Ed is nice to me I may do the same for him. I know some women that make Nicole Bass [an old pal of mine, known her since 1986] look like a stripper. Be warned, these women DO NOT take 'no' for an answer. Some of them have clits bigger than Jerry Butler's dick.

I remember last year I was at the Rio in Vegas covering the USA bodybuilding championships the same time the VSDA was in town. Between bodybuilders and porners, the lobby looked like the set of a Fellini movie. I was walking behind a quartet of Glamazons when they passed Jenna Jameson, and I saw her stop dead in her tracks and stare in awed disbelief. These are the kind of women that would make Max Hardcore and Robbie Black eat a mile of their shit to lick their ass clean. Not that it would take much in the case of Black. After all, he had his mommie go up to Janie Hamilton at the VSDA and beg her not to shoot him. Speaking of which, why haven't you published my latest expose of Mike? I think I am on the verge of dragging him whimpering from he closet. Enjoy yourself & see you when you get back."

Gene sez: "Let's set a couple of records straight. Ed Powers is not into Amazons. He was pointing out a girl in Cancun that I might like. Rob Black did not get his mommy to go over to Hamilton. Jo Ann Black is pretty feisty in her own right and doesn't need any prompting to stir some shit. Mike Albo is quite content to carry out his wars with Peter North and asked not to be sucked into yours. Otherwise, here's to Amazons!"

Mike South, mike-south.com comments on remarks made by attorney Clyde DeWitt at the recent AVN Cancun conference: "With all due respect to Mr DeWitt, he is wrong on the following points. Attorney Clyde DeWitt: 'The speed of cable connections to the Internet, now, is 56K or something like that.' It is 400K for cable connections and 1.5M for ADSL [Asymmetric Digital Subscriber line] from the phone company.

'Probably everybody in this room and most of your customers have cable TV wires.'

Yes but cable access is not yet widely available.

When the cable TV business starts competing with the telephone wires for Internet access, your access speed is going to be 10 to 15 times faster than the fastest you can hit it now. Umm make that up to 100 times faster than it is now. And the cablecos that offer it are Internet Service Providers. Which means that those of you who are in the market niche of selling scenes as opposed to full-length features, are going to be facing competition which is going to be largely piracy with the ability to download a whole scene to 30 seconds in full motion videotape quality that you can watch on the Internet.

Full motion video quality scenes at 1.5M are going to essentially be real time...ie 1 minute of cable tv quality video will take 1 minute to download.

To download a scene is as easy now as it is to download a picture. To add to the problem that already exists, that's going to happen within a year. The deal is you can access the Internet through your cable television."

He is absolutely correct in that this will be a HUGE piracy issue...reference the MP3 problems now faced by the music industry.

Additionally this could cut out the middle man, consumers could get their video directly from the producer. Watch out ya'll, the times they are a changin!

Sorry, a cable modem is in the area of 750kbps your confusing a 56k dial up modem which can be up to 50k max.*

Thats only 5k a second download at optimun preformance.

The average .avi, .mpg, .mov are arround 1 meg.

1,000,000 /5,000 =200 seconds /60 = 3.3 minutes

Ok that's still pretty fast, but now let's look at packet loss and smut servers that are overloaded and can not provide a file any faster than 1.0 to 1.5 k with timeouts on the average of every 15 to 30 seconds lasting up to a minute or more. Now your 1 meg file just took several hours to get because of average network congestion.

I have a cable modem and sit on a T1 at work all day long every day and most smut sites I look at can't give me a file any faster than about 6 to 15 k a second, I can suck it down at up to 1.5 megs a second on a T1.

[Eat your heart out]

A full length 90 min video at 30 frames with stereo sound would require more storage space than most network servers have.

The average smut server has between 4 to 9 gigs hard drive storage space on it and up to 1 gig can be for the operation system [if a fully loaded unix system is setup].

Most smut sites are on a shared server with many other smut sites.

Not all smut vendors can afford the co-locate and bandwith fees which can get up to $6,000.00 a month. [Smut people are cheap bastards.]

The starwars trailer in a quicktime 3 format runs about 1 minute and is 24 megs, it is NOT 30 frames and running 22k stereo sound.

'Probably everybody in this room and most of your customers have cable TV wires. When the cable TV business starts competing with the telephone wires for Internet access, your access speed is going to be 10 to 15 times faster than the fastest you can hit it now.'

It's much faster than that. Try around 250 times faster. Which means that those of you who are in the market niche of selling scenes as opposed to full-length features, are going to be facing competition which is going to be largely piracy with the ability to download a whole scene to 30 seconds in full motion videotape quality that you can watch on the Internet. To download a scene is as easy now as it is to download a picture. To add to the problem that already exists, that's going to happen within a year. The deal is you can access the Internet through your cable television.

Not all cable television companies are offering cable modems. It may be many more years before all of the cable companies in L.A. offer cable modems.

* The bandwith of a 56k V.90 modem is limited by the F.C.C. to 50k max. that is download speed. your upload speed is still only 28.8 or 33.6k.

Performance will vary depending on the quality of your telephone system. Ok I'm done. Stiffieee !!!

\n Mike Ross comments on remarks made by attorney Jeffrey Douglas during the Cancun Conference: "Gene.....it's obvious that you buy any and all of Douglas's shit....

First, so you know, I have sponsored legislation for several years dealing with "intellectual property rights," and the last time it was introduced, I couldn't get the FSC to support it. Jeffrey is full of shit.

Second, Jeffrey says a lot of things but two words are missing....Michael Ross. All of the events that he spoke of meant nothing, unless their "lobbyist" did the hard work, and that lobbyist was me. In fact, Kat Sunlove was trained by me.. .she attended 4 of my seminars on how to lobby, and in the last 2 years, has received an education from me that shows everyone in the nation that I am the lobbyist for this industry. I don't lie, I don't steal and I am trusted by more than just the FSC Cartel.

Third, there is only one lobbyist who is qualified to not only lead this industry into the 21st century, but also congress.... and that is Michael Ross. In fact, I have just been hired by a coalition of clubs to represent them in Congress and 20 other states. There is no need for the FSC to try and go "national".. shit, they can't even do Sacramento. In fact, so you know, by the time the Gentlemen's Club Expo arrives in September, I will have started over 20 PAC's and have taken positions on over 200 bills, something that the FSC can and will never match. I have sponsors, and have raised over $165,000 to do the job [and that is since Jan 1, 1999].

Can the FSC match either of those claims?

Fourth, if things were so good for Douglas, why did he get fired? No matter what he said, he was fired, and for consumers and the industry, that is great news.

Fifth, Jeffrey wants to start another organization to combat forgeries? Don't you think that is kinda crazy, considering the fact that he and the FSC have done nothing except take money from the industry. Why pay him to do another job, when he can't do the job he is supposed to do now. Oh yea, I guess that his firing helps foster confidence in his abilities to start another organization.....

Sixth, something needs to be done regarding the problem outlined in your column. When are you going to get in the game and realize that there are others who are doing the same thing, for less money, and more effectively? Douglas, like Sunlove, are only out to line their pockets, and I have proof... in fact, I did ask you to follow up on the question of "where did Sunlove donate the money she raised at the last FSC function?" For some reason, you have failed to follow up on it... why?

I look forward to not only your call, but also your printing this letter and the truth
