Niche specialization seems to be the thing with video start-ups these days, but there are some new adult companies that take a broader visioned approach.
Like Maximum Xposure, barely a year old, which has already made its mark with diversity.
Mitch A., vice-president of sales, told AVN, “At Maximum Xposure we’ve got everything from black titles to white titles to she-male titles. The idea is to cover all aspects, from reality porn to hard porn to stylized porn, a little of everything. Anything that somebody is looking for, we’ll have.”
Maximum Xposure took flight in the spring of 2004 under the guidance of Noel Bloom, a porn pioneer who was returning after a long hiatus to the industry he helped create. The first two releases were Anal Cum Drippers, a cream pie release, and Treat Him Like a Lady, a she-male title.
The company kept turning out product at the pace of two to three a month, along the way adding a second line, Sinful Pleasures, with a harder focus. The combined catalogue currently boasts 52 titles. In March they made a distribution deal with Billy Glide Productions, releasing Billy Glide’s XXX Adventure in May.
When Bloom left to go to work (briefly, as it turned out) for VCA-Hustler, the national sales job was turned over to Mitch, one of the savviest veterans of adult industry distribution.
“I’ve had 25 years of distribution, so I know that end of it very well,” Mitch said, “and now in the manufacturing end of it, I’m able to help them because of my experience in distribution. Mike Kovacs is the foreign sales contact. He’s been doing it for years; there’s nobody really better.
“This company has over 25 years of distribution experience and manufacturing knowledge behind it,” he said. “We have distribution outlets throughout the world.”
Mitch is particularly enthusiastic about the Billy Glide line, a combination gonzo and reality series, shot in SoCal recreation locations. The first volume takes place in Big Bear, the mountain resort.
“It has the hottest male performer, and I’m looking at this as being the gonzo line of the year,” he said. The followup, Billy Glide’s XXX Hookers, was not yet scheduled for release at press time.
Mitch pointed out that the Maximum Xposure and Sinful Pleasures lines each have their own identities — “the harder line and the softer line.” Maximum Xposure covers show one large image of a girl, which, according to Mitch, “doesn’t make it look like it’s a real hard line.”
Sinful Pleasures, on the other hand, offers “good hard sex for the consumer, but not that crazy stuff that’s out there.”
A whole new dimension has been added by the acquisition of contract star Sandee Westgate. A popular print and Internet model, her stunning face and figure have graced many magazine covers, including Hustler, Club and Cheri, and notably, the June 2003 issue of AVNOnline.
Her company, Femme Fusion, will produce four features, starring Sandee and directed by Josh Ryan. The first, a lesbian title, Girlfriends, will be released this month.
“With Ryan’s stylized direction,” Mitch predicted, “the Femme Fusion movies will be a nice break from the monotony of the gonzo productions in the marketplace. I think this will help Maximum Xposure capture the very growing couples market while not isolating the guys that love hot chicks and hot sex.”
Westgate was signed to a one-year contract for features. They’re hoping she will eventually do boy-girl scenes. “We’re doing the all-girl one, and we’ll see what happens from there,” Mitch said. “My idea is to get her to do a few mini-tours of distributors and stores. I’m looking at this girl to be one of the top stars in the business. She has a rare sexual energy that comes around once in a blue moon.”
With the stylized Femme Fusion complementing Billy Glide’s reality porn and the hard-edged Sinful Pleasures, Maximum Xposure is filling several niches at once.
“My plan,” Mitch said, “is really to make people look forward to each title they put in their player — a Maximum Xposure, a Billy Glide, a Sandee Westgate — to make them ask for the next one.”
Maximum Xposure releases for June are D. P. Wreckage and Euro X, with Double Dicked 2 on the Sinful Pleasures label.
