LOS ANGELES - The 25th Anniversary Adult Video News awards made its broadcast premiere on Showtime on March 14. The two-hour presentation, billed as “The AVN Adult Movie Awards,” was taped on Jan. 12 at the Mandalay Events Center in Las Vegas.
It will be replayed several times this month.
“I’m really excited that the industry has a chance to brand itself on a major cable network,” said AVN president Paul Fishbein.
Gary Miller, the show’s longtime producer, told AVN, “It was great to be back at Mandalay Bay for the second year in a row. It’s a wonderful facility that provides us with the all the technical means for putting on a presentation of this magnitude.” For the first time the show was shot on High-Definition and will also be broadcast in that format.
Miller had high praise for adult superstar Tera Patrick, who co-hosted the proceedings with comedian Greg Fitzsimmons. “She was terrific,” he said, “one of the best we’ve had.”
Patrick told AVN she wanted to “definitely thank Paul Fishbein” for offering her the job and recalled, “It’s funny, but I wasn’t even nervous. Everybody kept coming up to me, ‘Are you nervous, are you nervous?’ I was like, Are you kidding? This is like easy. I’m in front of all my peers. I had a lot of support. My husband Evan [Seinfeld] was in the front row and blowing me kisses the whole time.
“Right before I went on stage—you know, you have to give that big monologue when you go out there — Teri Weigel was giving me a massage. That’s probably why I was so relaxed. Teri was one of my first friends when I got into the business, so it all kind of came full circle. Here I was seven years later hosting the AVN show.”
Of her co-host, she said, “Greg was great. The jokes flowed. I came up with some jokes, he came up with some jokes, and we made it work. It was really fun to work with him.”
Patrick said that many of her friends and family are planning to watch the broadcast. “Everybody’s telling me how proud of me they are. I hope I represented the industry in a positive, enthusiastic and good way. I hope that people look at the show and take away with them, not only was she a great host, but what a great show.”
