A special Website for pre-nominations for the 2006 AVN Awards — avnawards.com/nominations — is now open for use by qualified industry personnel. It will remain active until October 10.
Producers and performers who wish to make pre-nominations must have a user name and password. These may be obtained by emailing Heidi Pike-Johnson, AVN senior associate editor, at [email protected]. The site is not accessible to the general public.
Pike-Johnson may also be reached by phone at 818.718.5788, ex. 154, but she emphasized that email is the swiftest and most effective means of communication. She also emphasized that AVN no longer accepts pre-nom lists from any party in hard copy or via email or fax.
The website will shut down at 9 a.m. on October 10, at which time the passwords will no longer be operative.
“We’re asking people to be judicious in what they ask us to consider,” Pike-Johnson said. “If you say everything you’ve released this year is worthy of a nomination, that is simply not going to work in your favor.
I can’t stress that enough. Only pre-nom things that you really believe in, because that will increase the chances that we’ll believe in them, too.”
Pike-Johnson also noted that production companies must supply AVN with all required information in their pre-noms, such as listing all performers in sex scenes and the names of all behind-the-camera talent in the technical categories such as editing, videography, music and others.
“Last year, when we debuted our pre-nom Website, we found that it enabled producers to more efficiently enter their own pre-noms,” said AVN Editor-in-Chief Mike Ramone. The pre-noms, he added, are “invaluable tools AVN uses to insure that the nominations process is as fair and all-encompassing as possible.”
To be considered for a 2006 Awards nomination, a production must have been released between Oct. 1, 2004 and Sept. 30, 2005. The 23rd annual AVN Awards show will be held January 7, 2006, at the Venetian Hotel in Las Vegas.
Producers are reminded to provide the magazine with two DVD copies of each title or scene they would like to have considered for nominations, as well as sample materials used in marketing campaigns if seeking consideration in those categories.
Producers may enter pre-noms in all the categories listed below.
Ramone said that, like last year, producers could request that their comedies and foreign features be nominated in the Best Film and Best Video Feature categories. DVD producers, meanwhile, can pre-nom classic and all-sex DVDs for Best DVD. If, however, those productions are not eventually nominated in the Best Film, Best Video Feature or Best DVD categories, producers cannot then request that they be nominated as Best Sex Comedy, Best Foreign Feature, Best Classic Release on DVD or Best All-Sex DVD.
Nominations for the 2006 Awards Show will be announced in November.
