ASACP Gets FBI Attaboy

Adult Sites Against Child Pornography's work doesn't go unappreciated by the FBI - the bureau's Los Angeles division has sent ASACP founder Alec Helmy a letter of appreciation for the group's help in nailing down numerous child porn cases. And Helmy said the letter really belongs to everyone who works for or with ASACP.

"As you know, our Crimes Against Children program within the Los Angeles Division is attempting to combat child pornography on the Internet. Your help on these investigations has been essential," said the letter, a copy of which was provided to AVN Online.

"Recently your efforts have provided us with valuable information," the letter continued. "This information has identified several possible child pornography websites. Most importantly, your efforts have led to cooperation with other individuals with important information about individuals selling illegal images of children."

"It was definitely good news," Helmy said the morning after he and ASACP executive director Joan Irvine received the letter. "We've been doing this for six, seven years now, and this definitely just confirms everything, boosts everyone's morale. It's a great accomplishment for everyone who's involved in supporting ASACP."

Helmy, of course, set up ASACP in 1996 because he was only too well aware that the mainstream media tended to think adult entertainment the near-automatic cause of child porn, and he and his colleagues were bent on giving the industry a chance to prove its vigilance against child porn.

Does this recognition from the FBI help dispel that image? "I think it definitely helps achieve that," Helmy said. "You know, it's really, ultimately, we can't really control how the industry is perceived. But anything that is orchestrated by the industry and has a good cause will have a positive effect on the industry itself."

"Your efforts have led to many positive results and what will hopefully be a productive effort to stem the exploitation of children," the FBI letter also said.

At this writing, over three thousand adult Websites display the ASACP logo. If you want to join yours to the battle against child porn, contact Joan Irvine at ASACP.
