Cybersocket announced via email last night that nominees for its annual Web Awards have been posted here.
The Cybersocket Web Awards, begun in 2001, honor the best lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender websites. It is the only awards program of its kind.
In its press release Cybersocket stated, "We feel that it is essential to honor these individuals and companies as being technological entrepreneurs, important agents of free expression and cultural change, and innovators in queer media and entertainment."
The 31 "Surfer's Choice" awards categories include Best Blog Site, Amateur Video Site, Voyeur Site, Video Company Site, Adult Gay Mega Site, Live XXX Show, and Video/DVD Retail Site. There are also many non-XXX categories such as Travel, Shopping, and Political Action sites.
The six nominees for Best Porn Star Site are Andy Dill, Gus Mattox, Jacob Slader, Josh Tucker, Michael Brandon, and Zeb Atlas.
Nominees are selected by web surfers, who vote in the Surfer's Choice categories, and by selected industry professionals who vote for the 21 Industry Choice awards.
The announcement urged all voters "to use your own subjective criteria in making your decisions, thus enabling you to send a clear message to webmasters and website developers that you may want more of some things and less of others."
Voting on nominees in all categories begins now and lasts till 9 a.m. (PST) December 12, 2005.
The invitation-only awards ceremony will be held at Gipsy Nightclub in Las Vegas on January 5, 2006.
