PALM HARBOR, Florida—The 32nd Annual NightMoves Awards event, originally scheduled for October 9-13, has been postponed due to severe weather warnings from Hurricane Milton, the second major hurricane expected to make landfall in the Tampa, Florida area in as many weeks, and the third this year. The new dates for the event have been scheduled for November 6-10.
Show organizers cited the possibility of a direct hit to the area, which could experience power outages, wind damage, and flooding in an intense storm. The adult fan show’s four-day schedule was slated with events in several locations, including Palm Harbor, New Port Richey, Largo, St. Petersburg, Holiday, and Tampa.
“Needless to say, It’s been a very difficult summer here in Tampa Bay. We have had two hurricanes affect our area this year and now we have another one bearing down on us. Hurricane Milton is scary as it is making a bee-line right at Tampa with landfall estimated Wednesday,” a NightMoves representative said.
“This has never happened before as it is very unusual for a hurricane to travel west to east. Tampa has had hurricanes in the past but never a direct hit. Many people are still struggling in the aftermath of Hurricanes Debbie and Helena and there are still people without power,” the rep added.
As of this writing, a report from the National Hurricane Center (NHC) said that Milton had increased to a Category 5 hurricane and was expected to strike the west coast of Florida on Wednesday night. This morning the majority of the Florida Gulf Coast was under Hurricane Watch or Warning, including the Tampa Bay area.
