25,000+ USERS IN FIRST TWO WEEKS

A new Internet subnetwork devoted exclusively to porn took off handsomely, with over 25,000 users in its first fortnight, says the subnetwork's developer.

Nescom Systems Corp. says the Adult Cyberspace Network has attracted over forty leading adult websites to move to their domain, publishing over four thousand pictures, since the subnetwork launched in late July.

"The network (was) only available two weeks and the chat rooms are buzzing 24 hours a day," says Nescom vice president for marketing Jackie Barnard, "with many women using the chat rooms in addition to men."

But watchers are keeping an eye on Adult Cyberspace Network for more than just its contents. Technology observers think it could - or should - force mainstream Internet producers to review their multimedia potentials.

"America Online and Microsoft better pay attention," says Ray Bethke of Hi-Tech Insider. "Nescom has done their homework well and provided a superb interface with greater multimedia interaction potential. That alone could steal a very profitable piece of the Internet market."

ACS's software lets a user access the subnetwork using its own domain name and address system protocol. This, Nescom says, lets it ensure adult Web operators on ACS "adhere to quality standards and to effectively enforce rules that prevent Web sites from distributing immoral material," such as child pornography or bestiality.

"Browsing (ACS) is not possible with conventional Web browsers," Nescom says. "This prevents children and adults who do not wish to see nudity from accidentally entering an Adult Cyberspace Web site."

ACS rules also bar Web site operators joining it from using misleading or annoying features like blind links and popup browser windows.

"We're radically changing the face of adult entertainment on the Internet," Barnard says. "Like it or not, sex on the Web is here to stay…(but u)sers who surf adult Web sites are continuously bombarded by banner ads, multiple windows opening, never-ending loops, and annoying blind links, to the point that their browser crashes and their computers hang. (We) not only ensure strict rules of conduct in terms of decency of content, but also of online browsing quality."

Once you have downloaded the program, when you install it you'll be instructed to provide your birth date continental-style (e.g., 31.1.99, or 31 January 1999) and to choose an online identifier icon if you plan to use the chat rooms.

The ACS browser is configured somewhat akin to Microsoft's Internet Explorer. Other features include browsing for start points within the ACS subnetwork, and links to prime sites now listed on ACS exclusively.
