2005 AVN Award Show Nominations Announced

AVN today announced the nominations for the 2005 AVN Awards Show.

The hundreds of nominations in nearly 100 categories, recognizing the best achievements in adult from Oct. 1, 2003 to Sept. 30, 2004, are the result of deliberations by the AVN editorial staff over a two-week period last month. The staff spent weeks scouring over literally thousands of pre-nominations, viewing hundreds of titles, to whittle the list down to the nominees, which are posted below.

The staff, plus AVN freelance reviewers and selected adult critics outside of AVN, will now begin voting for the winners, to be announced at the 2005 AVN Awards Show in January. To vote in any single category, voters must watch every nominated title or scene.

Two new categories were created for the 2005 Awards Show – Best Interracial Release and Best P.O.V. Release. For the second consecutive year, though, there is no Best Anal Sex Scene – Film category.

"There are many stellar performances in just about every film category, however the few anal sex scenes shot on film weren't enough to warrant a competition," said AVN Publisher Tim Connelly.

"Hopefully, next year Best Anal Sex Scene – Film will return. Anal sex isn't going away, it's just taking a break this year in the film category," Connelly quipped.

Also for the second consecutive year, there is no Adult Video Nudes category marking the worst release of the year, again, due to an insufficient number of qualifying titles.

Companies with nominations in the following categories must submit to AVN 30 copies of each title on DVD: Best Film, Best Video Feature, Best Gonzo Release, Best Sex Comedy, Best All-Sex Release and Best DVD.

Nominees in all other categories must submit to AVN 20 copies of each title or scene on DVD. Companies with series under consideration should send two representative volumes of the series that were released between Oct. 1, 2003 and Sept. 30, 2004.

Mail or hand-deliver the titles to AVN Senior Associate Editor Heidi Pike-Johnson, care of AVN, 9414 Eton Ave., Chatsworth, CA 91311. Questions should be addressed to Pike-Johnson at 818.718.5788, x154 or [email protected]

The winners will be announced at the 22nd annual AVN Awards show, to be held on January 8, 2005, at the Venetian Hotel in Las Vegas.

Vivid Girl Savanna Samson, joined by Thea Vidale, the AVN Awards Show's first female comic, will co-host the event.

The show's musical guests have yet to be announced.
