LOS ANGELES—The tube site xHamster on Wednesday announced plans to to provide free media outreach and other press services to Pineapple Support, a non-profit providing adult performers with access to mental health services and emotional support.
“With the New Year upon us, we wanted to raise awareness for the 24/7 emotional support services Pineapple Support have arranged for performers,” said Alex Hawkins, vice president of xHamster. “We have been talking with the team for some time about how to best help, and saw this campaign as a launching point to reach more performers, and build greater awareness about the challenges performers face.”
Pineapple Support has been providing 24/7 performer support services during the holiday season and beyond.
Pineapple Support was launched in 2018 by British performer Leya Tanit, in response to a string of performer deaths last winter related to depression and addiction. The non-profit organization helps provide access to free and low-cost psychotherapy, counseling and emotional support to persons working in the adult industry.
“Pineapple Support is providing performers in crisis with life-saving services, but the need is great,” Tanit said. “We’re a small organization, operating on a small budget and the goodwill of those who volunteer with us. We are incredibly thankful to have xHamster on board to help raise awareness for our mission, and ultimately get more performers the counseling they need.”
Pineapple Support provides 24/7 emotional support for performers, and works to secure free or low-cost therapy for those in need. However, with a small budget and volunteer staff, it has struggled to provide enough services to meet the need.
xHamster will donate the services of its media relations team, helping Pineapple Support reach journalists, conduct surveys, launch fundraisers, develop web content and generally bring more attention to issues faced by online adult performers.
Hawkins says that more companies need to step forward to help Pineapple Support.
“Performers are the backbone of our industry, and every company in it should be asking themselves right now what they can donate, either in cash or services, to help support this incredible organization. Leya has already moved mountains with her passion and dedication. We, as an industry, owe it to her to do whatever we can to help Pineapple Support succeed.”
