MALTA—On the island nation of Malta, surfing for porn is bigger than online news or banking.
According to data from Internet ranking website Alexa.com, Maltese Internet users are among the most active porn browsers among all 27 EU member states, reports Malta Today. Malta is located in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea, about 60 miles off the coast of Italy.
New rankings place online adult video site Pornhub.com as the 21st most visited website in Malta, three positions higher than the Bank of Valletta website, four up from the University of Malta website, seven places higher than news portal di-ve.com, and 16 places higher than the HSBC banking website
Based on Alexa stats for each EU state, the top 50 websites visited by Maltese Internet browsers include porn sites LiveJasmin.com ranked 31st, and free-to-access sites such as YouPorn.com ranked 35th, RedTube.com ranked 41st, Tube8.com ranked 47th and XHamster.com in 50th position for a total of six porn websites in the 50 most visited sites in Malta.
In comparision, Spain’s most visited 50 sites also include six porn sites; the most popular is Petardas.com ranked at 31. Other countries ranking high for porn surfing include Italy and Cyprus, while Hungary ranked the lowest, with no porn websites in the country’s top 50 websites visited.
Alexa.com ranks YouPorn.com as the world’s 48th most visited website, predominantly by men aged 18 to 34 who have no children, university graduates. Also popular globally with high rankings are RedTube, YouPorn and PornHub.
