The analytics department at PornHub has released statistics showing the rates at which Americans enjoyed porn, at least via the mega “tube” site, on the day that 74 million of them went to the polls to cast a ballot in congressional, state and local elections in all 50 states.
An estimated 110 million Americans voted in the 2018 midterm elections, but about 36 million of them cast early ballots, sparing themselves the hassle of showing up at a polling place in person on Tuesday.
PornHub stats showed that on the morning of election day, traffic on the site was up by 20 percent compared to an average day, suggesting that Americans needed to do something to put themselves in the frame of mind to vote in the highly contentious midterm election.
“Voters were looking to get some Pornhub time in early in case they had to wait in line at the polls, or perhaps they woke more anxious than usual and needed to relax,” the PornHub experts surmised.
At 7 a.m. on Election Day, women saw their porn viewing jump by 21 percent. But women’s porn viewing dipped to lower than average levels between the hours of 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. The increase in traffic from men was higher than normal after 9 a.m. until mid-afternoon, the site’s statisticians reported.
As election returns started to roll in, traffic dipped as Americans were likely glued to their TV screens waiting to see whether Democrats would capture either house of congress. Except in Washington D.C.
In the nation’s capital, between 8 p.m. and midnight just as election results were being feverishly reported by the various news networks, PornHub traffic spiked to levels 31 percent higher than average.
The only other states or territories to see a double-digit jump in porn-watching on election night were Minnesota (up 21 percent) and Arizona (up 10 percent). No other region saw an increase higher than five percent, and more than half of the country watched less PornHub porn during those election night hours than they would on an average day.
