Moniker’s T.R.A.F.F.I.C. Auction Nets Millions

MIAMI – Domain registrar Moniker.com’s live domain auction at the T.R.A.F.F.I.C. conference moved $4.7 million worth of domains when all was said and done, the company reported.

In addition to a live auction at the show, Moniker also conducted a silent auction that ran beyond the show and closed on Oct. 30. The silent auction added another $607,000—bringing the total to $5.3 million.

Cameras.com stole the show in the live auction, being taken for $1.5 million by Sig Solares of Parked.com. Flowers.mobi also made a splash after attracting a high bid of $200,000 from T.R.A.F.F.I.C. co-founder Rick Schwartz.

“First of all, before we are ‘domainers,’ we are ‘investors.’ At least, that is how I would describe myself. I decided that buying a few premium dot-mobi’s would possibly be a good investment. Time will tell,” Schwartz said.

Another dot-mobi also cracked the six-figure mark with Anything.com’s purchasing Fun.mobi for $100,000.

A dozen domains attracted six-figure-plus bids, and a total of 115 names were sold, averaging $42,000 per sale.

The highest price paid in the silent online auction was $60,000 for Castle.com, followed by the $30,000 each for Cage.com and PAX.com.

A total of 288 domains were sold in the silent auction, an average of $2,100 per sale. A complete list of domains and sale prices from the silent auction is available here.
