Microsoft Nixes Thrixxx’s Sex Kinect Plans

CYBERSPACE—The sex party poopers at Microsoft have indicated their displeasure with plans being developed by 3D virtual sex game producer Thrixxx to utilize the hands-free gaming system for purposes for which it was not originally intended.

Thrixxx announced last week that it intends to start offering Kinect-enabled hands-on sex play starting in April or May of 2011. The company has two demos on its site that show viewers how the device might be used in its games. Essentially, one would be able to stroke, insert, spank and grope without the hindrance that comes with having to deal with remotes, keyboards or other physical devices. Virtual sex the way it was meant to be experienced.

Unfortunately, Microsoft, like its archrival Apple, doesn’t believe in platform neutrality, and says that it will block Thrixxx from releasing its Xbox 360 software.

"Xbox is a family-friendly games and entertainment console and does not allow Adults Only (AO) content to be certified for use on its platform, and would not condone this type of game for Kinect," the company said in a statement. "This isn't the first example of a technology being used in ways not intended by its manufacturer, and it won't be the last. Microsoft did not authorize or license its technology for this use."

According to ABCNews, Brad Abram, vice president of business development for Thrixxx, said that options are available to the company if Microsoft sticks to its position.

“Abrams acknowledged that there could be an issue with Microsoft's license agreement but said Thrixxx may be able to work around the problem with another company that provides the core technology for Kinect,” ABCNews reported.

The Kinect platform was hacked shortly after it was released in November, and there is even a website called KinectHacks that covers the many purposes for which it is being used.

“Controlling robots, scanning rooms, playing air guitars with real sound, drawing with physics and much, much more are just some of the things hackers have been able to do in a short amount of time,” a site description reads. “That is what this site is all about.”

If Thrixxx has its way, the Xbox 360 may have to move from the family room to the bedroom.
