Despite a ban on porn and porn-related smartphone apps by such major outlets as the Apple App Store and its Google equivalent—a ban that ultimately led to the social media site Tumblr banning porn from its platform altogether, as AVN.com reported—the popular tube site YouPorn introduced its own app “experience” this week, gaining attention from major media outlets apparently fascinated by the prospect of a new way to watch porn any time, anywhere.
The YouPorn app will not, of course, be available through the usual outlets, but instead will be a web-based application that may be installed directly from the YouPorn site. According to the site’s press release announcing the app, users will enjoy “more private and smooth adult viewing by keeping a users’ activity out of their browser history and delivering pages up to 50% faster.”
YouPorn is owned by MindGeek, the parent company of Pornhub, RedTube and other free porn sites. The YouPorn-branded site is currently ranked the 210th most trafficked site on the internet worldwide, according to Alexa.com stats.
The site’s innovative method for allowing fans to view porn on their phone and tablets with enhanced ease and privacy received its own coverage in the online edition of the normally staid, 101-year-old business magazine Forbes, which described the app as “a clean, smooth, fast application that requires less clean-up than anything browser based and content that you are damn well clamoring for, whether you'd admit it or not.”
PC Magazine focused on the technological benefits of the YouPorn app in its own coverage.
“There's a catch: it's not a conventional standalone app, but a web app,” PC Mag explained. “The software actually leverages the Chrome or Safari browser to create a mobile app-like experience on your device.”
The pop culture site Mashable even created a video explaining how the YouPorn app works, and the benefits of its use. That video may be accessed at this link.
The YouPorn app attracted overseas attention as well, including the German site Futurezone, the Mexican site Unocero, and the Bulgarian site Profit.bg.
