Matt Zane's iViewSex: The iTunes of Porn

CANOGA PARK, Calif. -- Matt Zane is calling his new website "the iTunes of Porn."

iViewSex.com offers adult clips for $1.69 each, adopting the business model of Apple's popular pay-per-song service.

"I have always used the music industry as a model for the development of the creative aspect concerning what I do in the adult business," Zane told AVN Online. "This time around I used a business model and content delivery system they have cultivated and sold to the masses."

Zane believes the music industry has already answered the question of where content delivery is headed.

"Last year individual music downloads finally eclipsed CD sales," he said. "I figured why not just follow the leader, which is iTunes. So I set out to create a site where individual downloads -- scenes -- by multiple studios would be available for a price that is comparable to the per-track cost offered on music sites. To take it a step further, I also wanted the consumer to be able to play the content on their iPhone/iPod or other mobile media just like the music or TV shows purchase from iTunes."

So what makes iViewSex different from other pay-per-clip sites such as Clips4Sale or iPorn?

"One of things is cost," Zane said. "iTunes has been .99 cents a track, though it's now variable pricing for some music. But still, the standard is .99 cents.  So we've made the price comparable. Who's going to pay 4, 5 dollars for one scene? If you multiply that by four or five clips, it's the price of a DVD. Another thing is, again, we're just sticking right to the mp4 format, which is the standard for everything, Apple TV, Direct TV and so on."

Zane explained pricing took into consideration all of the free porn on the Web.

"I don't know how all these pay sites expect to stay in business when consumers can get all the porn they want for free. I figured $1.69 was low enough to entice people into paying for high-quality downloads in an ideal format. Plus, we offer the clips with no DRM and no monthly dues, either."

Zane also believes his site's approach to categories is different.

"On our front page, we actually feature studios. Porn fans aren't just fans of specific stars, but studios like Mercenary Pictures, which we work with. So if you're a fan of Lexington Steel on Mercenary, you can find all that content related to the studio. It's just another option that puts power in the hands of the user. I think our categorization is a step above."

The site launched this Monday and orders were being processed the same day, Zane told AVN Online.

"People love it. A full scene that is less expensive than a gallon of gas," he said.

The site also plans to expand content offerings regularly. Multiple studios are already part of the site, including Mercenary, Legend, Matrix Studios, and individual performers such as Regan Reese.

"Just as in iTunes, I will sign anyone and everyone to the site. All studios, performers and independent shooters can become part of iViewSex.com. As of now we have more than 1,000 scenes and another 750 we are uploading in the next few weeks," Zane said.

Zane hopes to acquire 30 to 40,000 scenes for his site in the coming year.

"Ultimately I would like to sign up everyone," he said. "I think a lot of studios and performers will realize this is the way to go. No costs, nonexclusive and they receive up to 80 percent of the profits for each clip. If all the large video companies who are having difficulty competing with the big Internet companies combined all their content under one umbrella such as iViewSex.com, they could really give dominant Internet companies some real competition."
