LOS ANGELES—Lana Del Bae tells AVN that doing her homework before co-hosting “Sex Tales” is almost as much fun as conducting the interviews.
When the exuberant Chaturbate broadcaster accepted the offer to get behind the mic for Camming Life’s new podcast series with fellow Chaturbate fan fav Melody Kush, she didn’t realize how much she would enjoy the preparation aspect of the job, too.
“I absolutely love it,” Del Bae says. “The crazy part is I never even thought about doing something like this. Now that I’m doing it, it’s so much fun and it’s not even just the interviewing, it’s also the research and getting to learn so much about these phenomenal women in the industry.
“Because Mel and me both do research beforehand to learn the history of these powerful and incredible women that pretty much built the foundation of the sex work industry.”
One of those women is Dani Daniels, who sat in Del Bae and Kush’s hot seat for today’s second episode of “Sex Tales” that is available to watch now on The Camming Life YouTube channel and wherever you get your podcasts.
“Oh my god Dani Daniels is one of my favorite interviews so far and also one of the hardest ones because she’s done so many cool things that it’s hard to pick and choose which ones to talk about,” Del Bae says.
She pointed to Daniels’ “Dinner With Dani” talk show, a roundtable discussion with other adult stars and musicians that launched in 2018 and aired 10 episodes on Amazon Prime Video. Even though Daniels no longer performs in adult movies, her impact on the industry speaks for itself as she racked up more than 750 titles during a terrific on-screen career from 2011-2018, taking home eight AVN Awards along the way.
The personable duo also grilled Daniels on camming, pubic hair and her rising fame on TikTok. They even got Dani to open up about getting caught having sex in a movie theater, her famous bush and her adventures learning the WAP dance in the 52-minute podcast.
“She’s done so many amazing things,” Del Bae continues. “She’s also just beautiful and I was super excited to interview her. I’m really excited to see the finished product.”
Del Bae, who is from Portland, Oregon, says that she and Kush, who is from Quebec, Canada, already have developed a strong rapport both on and off the air despite not having met before auditioning for the gig.
“We do our independent research and then we do what we call a pow wow on Sundays,” Del Bae explains. “Sometimes we’ll pow wow for two hours if it’s necessary just to kind of mix and match our ideas. Luckily, we have amazing chemistry together and she puts in her time to do the homework, too. … We both care so much.
“I absolutely love working with her and I think we really encourage each other to be the best at it. It’s good to have to somebody that challenges you and encourages you with new ideas.”
Lana and Melody kicked off “Sex Tales” on Oct. 13 with an interview with AVN Hall of Fame performer/producer Tera Patrick, whom they spoke to from her home in Italy.
During Del Bae’s show prep she discovered Tera worked with Will Ferrell in his 2007 film Blades of Glory, while Kush found out she did a cameo on the Adult Swim animated series Aqua Teen Hunger Force in 2006.
“We found random little tidbits,” says Del Bae, who started her camming career in early 2017 and has become known for her charity-driven broadcasts that she holds every month.
Lana recalls that Chaturbate Chief Operating Officer Shirley Lara reached out to her in June about the co-hosting opportunity.
“Shirley approached me and asked me if it was something I was interested in and if I wanted to interview for it,” Del Bae explains. “One of my favorite things about Shirley is that she actually knows all of her models. Even though I’m not a top model she still knows me enough that she would approach me. I thought it was really cool.”
Del Bae continues, “Since she did select me, I said of course I want to try it. I was a little bit nervous like, ‘Oh I don’t know what I’m doing because I’ve never done it before,' but I was just being a scaredy cat. The coolest part about camming is it challenges me to try these new things that I would never experience in my life.
“This is another step in that direction, trying something I’ve never done before. I said, ‘What’s the worst that can happen? Heck yeah, let’s do it.’ And the rest is history.”
Del Bae says the tryout process entailed her doing several “mini interviews.”
“They got to see my comfort level with being the interviewer,” she adds.
Eventually, Del Bae got paired with Kush for a screen test—and a few days later she got the call.
“When Shirley first approached me about it I said there’s no way that I’ll actually get this, I’m just trying a new thing. So it kind of blew my mind that I got it,” Del Bae admits.
Lana and Melody already have recorded the first several episodes of "Sex Tales" and that on-the-job training couldn't be going much better, Del Bae says.
“I’ve learned that I actually like interviewing people,” Lana says. “I’ve always been a listener—even though I talk a lot. I love to learn about people. This is like a goldmine because you get to ask people whatever you want within reason. And very rarely in the adult industry are two females interviewing other females.”
Lana says she actually watches a few podcasts herself.
“I’m a closet weirdo and I like watching political podcasts on YouTube,” Del Bae confesses. “I don’t tell anybody because politics always aggravates somebody.”
Meanwhile, Lana hosted her most recent charity cam show on Friday, Oct. 16 in honor of World Food Day, dedicating a percentage of her earnings to Feeding America, a nationwide network of more than 200 food banks.
“The cool thing about Feeding America is that 10 dollars actually makes 100 meals,” Del Bae said the day before the broadcast. “So a 200-token tip—which is $10 on my end—would be worth 100 meals. We’ll see how many 10-dollar tips we can raise and celebrate World Food Day by feeding the hungry."
Early Saturday morning after she logged off, Del Bae donated $414 to Feeding America from yet another productive charity show.
“Next month, we’re doing a month-long fundraiser for Toys for Tots,” she says.
