CYBERSPACE—Gamers and porn fans alike now have the ability to watch animated, nude women performing erotic dances for them in the privacy of their own virtual reality goggles—or they would, if the online gaming app store Steam had not deleted the newest entry in the genre.
The new game, which goes by the rather literal title of Virtual Reality Girls and was created by the adult entertainment tech company ErosVR, debuted on November 25—but by November 28, Steam had deleted the game, which sold for about $12, from its site.
The basis for Steam’s action against the game? Simply that Virtual Reality Girls contained the user option of showing the “girls” dancing while fully nude. But the game also allowed users to clothe the characters in a variety of outfits.
In fact, the game wasn’t much of a game at all, but more like a presumably erotic viewing experience, in which users can pick from a menu of three “girls” and a variety of exotic dances. A trailer for the game can be viewed at this link—but in the trailer the characters’ nudity is censored by pixelation. The game itself contains full, non-pixelated nudity of the computer-generated dancers.
The game depicts its characters dancing only, and does not include explicitly sexual content.
ErosVR developers were understandably outraged by the game’s deletion from the popular Steam gaming site—a deletion which means an undetermined but significant amount of lost revenue.
“We do not agree with this because there are only dancing girls in this game,” ErosVR said in a statement. “You can chose an outfit for the girl or let her be naked but nothing more. There isn’t any sexual activities.”
But Steam pulled Virtual Reality Girls in response to complaints from users who objected to Steam carrying allegedly pornographic games.
“If you want porn VR then go to porn VR websites, what I don’t understand is why steam doesn’t have a special section for this stuff,” wrote one outraged customer on the Steam site. “There’s kids on here! Steam is really going downhill IMO when it comes to offering family safe content. How do we protest this?”
With the Steam deletion, Virtual Reality Girls remains currently unavailable.
