LOS ANGELES—FriendFinder Networks on Monday responded to reports of an alleged data breach occurring in October.
According to a report released Sunday by LeakedSource.com, FFN was the target of a hack affecting “over 400 million accounts representing 20 years of customer data which makes it by far the largest breach we have ever seen.”
LeakedSource says it is “a breach notification website that specializes in bringing hacking incidents to the public eye.”
The report claimed about 99 percent of the 400-million-plus FriendFinder passwords have been cracked, citing an analysis of the full data set. According to the report, the FFN sites affected include AdultFriendFinder.com, Cams.com, Penthouse.com, StripShow.com and iCams.com.
“Over the past several weeks, we have received a number of reports regarding potential security vulnerabilities from a variety of sources,” FriendFinder Networks said in a statement Monday. “Immediately upon learning this information, we took several steps to review the situation and bring in the right external partners to support our investigation.
“Our investigation is ongoing but we will continue to ensure all potential and substantiated reports of vulnerabilities are reviewed and if validated, remediated as quickly as possible. FriendFinder takes the security of its customer information seriously and is in the process of notifying affected users to provide them with information and guidance on how they can protect themselves. We will provide further updates as our investigation continues.”
The incident marked the second time FFN has been allegedly breached in two years—the first was in May of 2015.
