CYBERSPACE— FanCentro, arguably the largest platform for influencer fan clubs, has issued a statement in opposition to Tumblr’s ban of adult content on its platform.
"In a world full of gun violence, fights for equality among races and gender, and serious political turmoil, Tumblr has decided to turn its powerful lens on the morality of nipples," said Stan Fiskin, CEO of FanCentro. "I am not sure why companies like Starbucks and Tumblr have issues with healthy human sexuality, or the human body, but it is frightening that their personal issues with basic life functions are causing a chilling effect on free speech, and creating a dangerous barrier between people, rather than helping people to share ideas as their platform was originally intended.
"In solidarity with many other noteworthy companies and the thousands of influencers who use the FanCentro platform to reach their audience, FanCentro discontinued our own Tumblr blog and created a new one at blog.fancentro.com/ instead. We encourage all companies and personal bloggers to join our effort to support free speech, adult discourse and healthy sexual communication online by expanding the boycott."
Tumblr announced on Monday that it would be shutting down and removing accounts with any form of adult content. This on the heels of Starbucks announcing it would no longer allow access to adult websites from its store WiFi.
"I find it amazing the a person can play a first person shooter game and pretend to kill others on Starbucks WiFi or log into an account where people claim the earth is flat on Tumblr, but if anyone shows half a nipple they are destined to lose their account," Fiskin continued. "Pornhub gets more than 100 million people visiting it daily and FanCentro works with thousands of influencers reaching over a billion followers through social media, so arguing that a picture of a nipple is outside the mainstream is nonsensical.
"Adult entertainment is every bit as mainstream as cannabis, and we have seen the political shift toward regulating adult material as if it were dangerous when it fact it is not for anyone over the age of consent. to those who are already seeking the best services and tools to generate more revenue or to grow their influencer brand online, Tumblr's shortsighted action is a moment of truth. Do you wan't to nibble around the edges of a platform that openly dislikes you, or would you prefer to be part of a community that embraces your content?"
Fiskin added, "FanCentro will continue to support adult performers, entertainers, and sex workers by providing them with a platform designed and made for them to build their online brand to generate revenue. We are here to empower everyone to be themselves with the sole caveat that adult content should be consensually made and consumed only by adults. It’s your life, your brand, and your choice.
"Content creators now searching for a better way to blog can do so on the FanCentro platform with premium options available for free. We even have a simple tool designed to import all your data from Tumblr to your new FanCentro account in seconds. We look forward to meeting you and working with you.”
