China Could Become World's Largest Internet Market Soon

CHINA - According to statistics released by the Chinese government, China could overtake the United States in the next couple of months to become the nation with the most Internet users.

The state-owned China Internet Network Information Center reported that the number of Internet users in China rose 53 percent to 210 million at the end of 2007. The figure is up from 137 million at the close of 2006 and 162 million in June 2007.

China is 5 million users short of exceeding the United States as the world's largest Internet market, according to The Wall Street Journal.

A TechCrunch blogger felt that the majority of China's Internet users focus on games, entertainment, news and music. In the U.S., Internet use tends to lean more toward marketing, business and retail.
