China Adds Sites to Porn Watch List

BEIJING -- China's anti-porn campaign continues to take new twists and turns, as even real-estate websites have been placed on a porn watch list.

The China Internet Illegal Information Reporting Centre named Sohu real-estate portal Focus.cn, Telstra's realty-investing site SouFun, Guangzhou-based online video site 56.com and Phoenix Satellite Television's ifeng.com to a new list of "offensive" websites containing "low-brow" content.

The government-backed CIIRC has cited  a total19 new websites for containing content that "perverts social morals and harms the physical and mental health of children," according to Pacific Epoch.

China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology has warned that websites not registered with the government by Feb. 24 will be shut down.

Chinese-language TechWeb reports 100,000 sites have been closed and a dozen telecom server rooms are no longer in operation.

China launched its latest Internet campaign in early January. For additional information, please see AVN Online's January and February reports.
