LOS ANGELES—Sometimes when adult studios have been in business a long time, even industry insiders forget how they started out. Such may be the case with Kelly Madison Media. Twenty years ago, two people who barely knew each other decided to do an amateur porn website. One of those people was 33 years old and had big natural breasts with zero modeling experience; the other was just 22 and had zero experience designing websites—and for some crazy reason they thought they could start an adult internet business. That was in 1999, and by 2000 Ryan Madison had taught himself computer programming and designed a website for his then-soon-to-be wife, Kelly. They started kellymadison.com with no money and no experience but with a whole lot of dreams for their future.
So back in 2000, during the heyday of amateur websites, entire conventions and parties revolved around amateur networking and trading amateur content and helping each other out. Ryan Madison reflected on the good ‘ol days when, "We had ‘Friends Pages’ where we traded traffic, we gave each other advice on where to host and what billing companies to use. It wasn’t as corporate as it is now; everyone had their own little company doing their own thing but we all linked to each other and traded traffic like kids in a schoolyard trading their lunches, all trying to get the traffic that converted best for them."
Luckily for Kelly and Ryan, people joined their amateur solo model website and things grew from there. Kelly went from just doing solo photo shoots—remember: back then, video was way too expensive to host—to doing girl/girl photos and a few videos and then on to doing boy/girl videos with her husband Ryan. Soon the married couple began having threesomes with some of the biggest names in the business. That success propelled them to create pornfidelity.com and then its sister site, teenfidelity.com.
Jump 10 years into the future, and the two are running a successful porn company with many employees, receiving AVN and other awards along with a bevy of nominations, all while doing breakthrough work in 4K and cinematic porn. Jump another seven years ahead and they are working with amazing directors, each achieving their own accolades in the industry for producing unique and clever—yet always artsy—pornography.
Now in 2019, Kelly and Ryan have hit their 20-year mark and their business continues unabated. They are still running all their sites themselves and handling everything from programming to customer service and even doing their DVD cover design all under one roof to ensure quality control and brand identity. As Kelly has said, “If you love what you do, then it doesn’t feel like work. Even though I am no longer in front of the camera, I absolutely love working with talent, helping out with hair and make-up and doing costume and set design. I thoroughly enjoy helping in every way I can to make sure our award-winning directors and all the other wonderful people that work with us are supported and fully appreciated.”
The pair recently launched 5Kporn.com, which is a new visual experience at 60 frames per second. Soon they will be launching 5Kteens.com. To date, this little mom-and-pop shop runs four sites, two affiliate programs that are KellyCash.com and 5Kbucks.com, and have shot more than 1,200 models and have produced more than 500 DVDs. Whew!
The Madisons are looking forward to another 20 prosperous years in this amazing business that truly allows dreams to come true.
