FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla.—Porn fans and fans of the growing combat sport known as mixed martial arts have been waiting what seems like a lifetime for an event that combines their two passions, and on Thursday night, they finally got one. Well, maybe they haven’t been waiting a whole lifetime. In fact, they probably haven’t been waiting for this at all. But they got it nonetheless, in the form of the CamSoda Legends fight card, which streamed live on the popular camming site from Sway Nightclub in Fort Lauderdale.
While the CamSoda fight card may not have risen quite to the level of a UFC pay-per-view, the main event did feature two veteran fighters who spent their best years with the UFC, MMA’s most successful promotion, as 40-year-old former UFC heavyweight champ Ricco Rodriguez suffered a submission defeat to onetime UFC Middleweight Alex “The Spartan” Nicholson.
Rodriguez, in advance of the match, was straightforward in explaining his motivations for fighting on the CamSoda card.
“I get a lot of strange requests, so I’m just trying to make sure the checks clear,” Rodriguez told the MMA news site MMAJunkie. “I have over 80 fights, and a lot of times I’ve had checks not clear. I figured this one, the check would clear because porn has money.”
While no actual porn was integrated into the fight card—which was described by the MMA news site Cageside Press as “one of the most bizarre MMA cards to date,” and by MMA Sucka as “just as wacky as one would imagine”—several of CamSoda’s camming stars doubled as scantily clad ring card bearers.
In another overlap with the camming side of the CamSoda platform, viewers could give fighters tips for executing moves requested by fans, or just for an entertaining performance. That feature led to perhaps the most bizarre segment of the fight card, when Charles “Krazy Horse” Bennett won the highest tip total of the night, despite being beaten nearly into unconsciousness by his victorious opponent, Bruce Lutchmedial.
The fight ended with Lutchmedial standing over the fallen Bennett and giving him the finger with both hands—but “Krazy Horse” (who went by the nickname “Felony” for this fight) had the last laugh, collecting 5,300 tokens in tips, which meant that he collected a $1,000 bonus despite his one-sided loss.
On his way out of the arena, Bennett stopped to take a swing at current UFC fighter Colby Covington, who was a guest at the event.
Unlike Rodriguez, Bennett said that he was not on the card simply for a paycheck.
“I’m trying to get into porn, so I like it,” the 38-year-old Bennett told MMA Junkie. “I want to do fuckin’ porn when this is over.”
