THE NETHERLANDS — Software provider and .CAM registry AC WebConnecting is providing information for webmasters interested in registering a trademark for the new gTLD extension during the Oct. 6 to Dec. 5 Trademark Sunrise Period.
The company said that during this period trademark holders that have registered their marks with the Trademark Clearinghouse (TMCH) can register their "trademark.cam" names before the new domain extension is offered to the general public.
The .CAM extension is best suited for live cams, the registry noted, pointing to the success of the live cams niche in the recent years. “It's explicit and it pretty much brings itself into the visitor’s attention.”
"As an acronym for ‘camera’ or ‘webcam,’.CAM provides a good way to improve natural referencing. For example, when searching for ‘sex camera’ or ‘sex webcam,’ the website http://sex.cam, will appear in the first positions as soon as it will be indexed by search engines. That's the magic result of EMD effect (Exact Matching Domain) which will benefit the .CAM corresponding domain name," noted TMD Swiss AG, the company’s launch partner and owner of sex.cam.
Because the Sunrise Period could be technically challenging due to the Trademark Clearinghouse (TMCH) process, the registry said webmasters should note the following steps to validate a trademark and register a .CAM extension:
* Register at Trademark-Clearinghouse.com
* Submit the trademark for verification. Fill out a form detailing trademark information (such as the registration date and number). Upload proof that the trademark is being used. Sign a declaration that the trademark is being used.
* Download an authentication key in SMD format, which is valid and can be used at any Sunrise period for every new gTLD.
* Register the trademark .CAM at any registrar accepting Sunrise applications (a list can be found here).
